Job Summary The Drapery Tailor is responsible for creating high-quality, custom window treatments including draperies, sheers, valances, Roman shades, and related soft furnishings. This role requires advanced sewing skills, precision craftsmanship, and knowledge of fabric behavior to ensure all finished products meet design specifications and client expectations.
Duties
Fabrication & Sewing
Measure, cut, sew, and finish custom drapery panels, sheers, valances, Roman shades, and other soft window treatments.
Quality Control
Inspect finished pieces for accuracy, consistency, and workmanship quality.
Make necessary adjustments or repairs to ensure a flawless final product.
Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and finishing.
Technical & Measuring
Review work orders, design drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication.
Calculate yardage and material requirements.
Understand drapery hardware types and fabrication requirements (rods, tracks, motorized systems, headings, etc.).
Collaboration & Workflow
Work closely with designers, project managers, and installation teams to meet client expectations.
Manage timelines and prioritize tasks to ensure on-time delivery of completed orders.
Maintain a clean, organized, and protected work area
Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines, sergers/overlock machines, and hand-stitching techniques with precision.
Create custom pleats (pinch, goblet, box, Euro, etc.), hems, headings, and lining treatments (blackout, interlining, thermal).
Ensure accurate panel matching for patterned and directional fabrics.
Install and sew trims, banding, embellishments, and decorative details.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Tailor or Seamstress, with a strong portfolio of completed work
Strong knowledge of drapery styles, sewing techniques, linings, and fabrication standards.
Ability to read design plans, work orders, and measurements accurately.
Proficient with industrial sewing equipment and hand-finishing methods.
Robust attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to lift and handle large or heavy fabric rolls and finished panels.
Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
