Temporary Crew Leader, Transportation

8.0 hours per day, 12 months per year

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Two year AA or Technical degree in a related field.
3. Preferred five years directly related supervisory and facility experience in bus and/or heavy equipment vehicle maintenance, including one year experience in small equipment repair. Work in a similar size school district or other organization may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
4. Experience with current office technology (e.g., computers, fax, copier, GroupWise, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
5. Excellent customer service skills.
6. Valid driver’s license with Class ‘B’ Commercial Driver’s License with “P1S” endorsement.
7. Experience with State Patrol Vehicle Inspection processes.
8. Demonstrated computer knowledge of vehicle diagnosis, fleet maintenance software, fuel dispersal program, and vehicle inventory.
9. Possess a basic set of auto mechanic tools and storage cabinet.
10. Current WISHA approved first aid/CPR certification.

14. Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of vehicle maintenance employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times.
2. Serve as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students.
3. Work in a flexible and cooperative manner.
4. Manage the vehicle and equipment maintenance program for entire district, working closely with building administrators. Oversee all job assignments.
5. Assist the Director of Transportation Services and Human Resources in decisions concerning interviewing, hiring, and promotion of mechanical maintenance staff.
6. Ensure contract, policy, and regulation compliance when making employment decisions.
7. Review time sheets, leaves, audit payroll records, and manage mechanical maintenance budgets.
8. Approve vacations for the Transportation Maintenance staff in cooperation with Dispatchers and Safety professionals.

Assist in the performance and discipline process as needed and as directed by the Director of Transportation Services and the Executive Director of Human Resources. Solid writing skills essential.
10. Coordinate and review work of employees as needed.
11. Resolve complaints concerning transportation maintenance services.
12. Provide resources and guidance that will enable subordinates to accomplish their job requirements as directed by the Director of Transportation Services.
13. Develop and maintain proficiency in the District computerized Work Management System Transportation Maintenance and Material Inventory modules (MPulse).
14. Develop long range plans and schedules for vehicle and equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance. Ensure goals are reached.
15. Implement district policies, procedures and applicable state regulations.
16. Coordinate assigning work of transportation maintenance workers.
17. Compile, analyze, and develop specifications for transportation maintenance work to be contracted; obtain cost estimates and/or bids. Assist in evaluating bids received.
18. Assume responsibility and resolve emergency situations.
19. Participate in district supervisory training.
20. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Benefits/Compensation:

Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement.
