Salary Range: $35.93 - $41.37 /hour The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will support the Third Age Outreach Program (located at the Seniors Kiwanis Centre) and the Geriatric Day Hospital (Parkwood Hospital) both programs are part of Specialized Geriatric Services. This is an integrated role which will require travel between both sites.

Specialized Geriatric Services provides rehabilitation care, intake, assessment and treatment services to older adults who require medical management; encompassing various sub-programs including two inpatient units, a Geriatric Day Hospital, Ambulatory clinics, the Regional Geriatric Program (RGP), Regional Psychogeriatric Program (RPP), and Third Age Outreach program.

As a valued member of the interdisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide Therapeutic Recreation assessment, intervention and program planning on an individual and group basis with an emphasis on community integration, health promotion and enhanced quality of life for the Geriatric Day Hospital and Third Age Outreach Program.

Essential Qualifications

- Class F License or ability to obtain within the probationary period
- University Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a Therapeutic Recreation focus or University Degree in Human Sciences or Services with a Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
- Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
- Ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA
- Valid membership as a Registered - Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario (R/TRO)
- Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, and implement a personalized approach to service delivery within the guidelines of the Therapeutic Recreation Service Delivery Model in accordance with TRO standards of practice




- Clinical expertise and experience in geriatric rehabilitation and demonstrated knowledge of current rehabilitation best practices
- Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
- Experience with facilitating pool exercise programs for seniors
- Sound understanding of the role of a variety of rehabilitation professionals in the provision of stroke rehabilitation
- Working knowledge and experience with theories and principles of guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches
- Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
- Demonstrated ability to work with and direct support personnel
- Appreciation of resource utilization and comfortable working in a virtual environment
- Class F License or ability to obtain within the probationary period
- Willing to travel throughout Southwestern Ontario

Preferred Qualifications

- Proficiency in French would be an asset.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a therapeutic recreation professional
- Experience in both hospital and community service delivery
- Prior experience working with the geriatric population
- Current registration or eligible for registration with Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario (TRO)

Immunization Requirements

- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
