Special Education Teacher (Certified) Specialized Programs and Services to Support the Development of Young Children A Heart for Children is an Alberta Education approved ECS program providing therapeutic and educational services to children in Kindergarten in Airdrie. Our programs are designed to support young children who may not be meeting typical developmental milestones. We are currently seeking dynamic individuals with a passion for working with young children to join our school as a Special Education Teacher starting for the 2024-2025 School year. The hours of work are 8 AM – 3:30 PM (Monday to Friday). You must have a Valid Alberta Teacher Certificate (Interim/Permanent) to apply for this position.

The ideal candidate should: Possess broad background and extensive knowledge of best practices, methods and strategies for working with and teaching children with complex needs
Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, colleagues, parents and other stakeholders

Be flexible, curious, creative, and able to multi-task in our ever-evolving world in pediatrics
Enjoy working with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver child-focused services
Responsibilities Include to: Plan and Implement programs following Alberta Education ECS guidelines
Provide developmentally appropriate and engaging learning opportunities to special education children in a vibrant play-based program
Establish and maintain a classroom that is safe, stimulating, and age appropriate
Provide written reports or update relating to the children’s progress and goals as described in their IPP’S
Supervise and lead a team of paraprofessionals, providing clear direction and setting high expectations
Qualifications: Possess an Education degree from a recognised university
Valid Alberta Interim/Permanent Teacher Certificate
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
Experience working as a Teacher with children that display challenging behaviour or have disabilities
Demonstrate solid organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Personal suitability NOTE: This position requires lifting and carrying demands that require the ability to bend at the waist, stoop, and twist frequently, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, the ability to carry, push and pull up to 50 lbs, and the ability to stand, walk and sit frequently.
