Job Overview The Ottawa branch of Westbrook Truck Repair is looking for an experienced Truck & Transport Mechanic to join our maintenance team. We are a growing and you can be a crucial part of our extension.
The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial trucks, trailers, and related equipment. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, enjoys solving mechanical problems, and understands the importance of preventative maintenance in a transportation environment.
Position Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial trucks and trailers.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
- Service and repair engines, transmissions, drivetrains, steering, suspension, brakes, and chassis components.
- Diagnose and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- Troubleshoot fuel, emissions, and hydraulic systems.
- Use computerized diagnostic equipment and electronic testing equipment.
- Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical information.
- Perform inspections and identify potential safety or mechanical concerns before equipment is returned to service.
- Complete repairs and maintenance accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair orders, parts usage, and inspection documentation.
- Use hand tools, power tools, lifting and hoisting equipment, welding/cutting equipment, and other specialized shop equipment safely.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work environment.
- Communicate repair requirements and equipment concerns with management and operations.
- Assist with emergency and roadside repairs when required.
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable transportation regulations.
- Work collaboratively with other mechanics, drivers, and management.
- Assist in mentoring and training apprentices or less-experienced mechanics when required.
Requirements
- Proven mechanic experience with heavy trucks, industrial machinery, or similar equipment; dealership experience is highly preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, and powertrain components.
- Familiarity with schematics and technical manuals for troubleshooting complex systems.
- Experience working with excavators, cranes, forklifts, farm machinery, HVAC systems, or other industrial equipment is a plus.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently when required.
- Skilled in welding techniques using various welding methods (MIG/TIG) for repairs or fabrication tasks.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment necessary for maintenance work.
- Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients or team members regarding repairs or maintenance needs.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and work in demanding environments; willingness to work in various weather conditions is essential.
Additional Assets
- Truck & Transport Mechanic certification or apprenticeship experience.
- Experience with fleet maintenance.
- Experience performing commercial vehicle safety inspections.
- Welding experience.
- Experience with hydraulic systems.
- Experience with electronic diagnostic systems.
- Experience with alternative-fuel, hybrid, or high-voltage vehicle systems.
- Class DZ or AZ driver's licence.
- Experience working in the transportation, construction, mining, agricultural, forestry, or petrochemical industries.
Physical & Working Requirements This is a physically demanding position. The successful candidate must be comfortable:
- Working in awkward positions and confined areas.
- Climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Lifting and handling heavy parts, tools, and equipment.
- Working with power tools, hoisting equipment, hydraulic systems, and other shop equipment.
- Working in varying temperatures and, when required, adverse weather conditions.
- Following strict safety procedures when working around heavy equipment, stored energy, chemicals, electrical systems, and other workplace hazards.
