Roof Truss Designer (MiTek) Location: Edmonton, AB

Overview Our client is looking for a Roof Truss and Floor Designer with strong MiTek experience to join their team in Edmonton, Alberta. This role focuses on designing efficient, code-compliant roof truss and floor systems for residential, multi-family, and light commercial projects. You’ll work closely with sales, production, and customers to deliver accurate designs that move seamlessly from concept to manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

- Design roof truss systems using MiTek software (Sapphire preferred)
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings to develop accurate layouts
- Produce truss design drawings, layouts, and material take-offs
- Ensure designs meet applicable building codes, engineering standards, and project requirements
- Support the sales team with estimates, take-offs, and value engineering opportunities
- Communicate with builders, contractors, and internal teams to clarify design requirements
- Revise designs based on feedback, site conditions, or cost optimization




- Collaborate with production to ensure designs are efficient and manufacturable
- Manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and timelines

Qualifications

- 2+ years of roof truss design experience
- Hands-on experience with MiTek (Sapphire strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of structural loads, spans, and building systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents
- Detail-oriented with robust problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

Preferred

- Experience with floor truss or EWP design
- Background working within a truss plant or building materials supplier
- Engineering technologist diploma or related education
