Salary: $140,000 – $165,000+ based on experience
Location: Ottawa West End – primarily on-site, with some flexibility for remote work
Team: 12 employees, with 2 direct reports
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Finance to join an established organization in Ottawa’s West End. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the accounting function, strengthening financial processes and controls, and providing meaningful financial insight to support business growth and strategic decision-making.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on, modern accounting leader who brings grit, strong business judgment, excellent communication skills, and a continuous-improvement mindset . This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a meaningful impact while positioning themselves for potential progression into a Chief Financial Officer role in the coming years .
You will lead a team of approximately 12, with 2 direct reports , and work closely with the CFO and senior leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations across a multi-company workplace.
Review and analyze monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial performance.
Lead the preparation and coordination of year-end audited financial statements and work closely with external auditors.
Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts and projections to support financial planning.
Lead, mentor, develop, and motivate the accounting team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
Oversee accounts receivable and collections processes.
Establish, evaluate, and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Identify financial and operational risks and implement appropriate controls and solutions.
Drive process improvements and introduce modern tools, technology, and efficiencies across the accounting function.
Support due diligence and the financial integration of acquisitions and new business entities.
Partner with senior leadership to provide financial analysis, insight, and recommendations that support business objectives.
Manage special projects and provide ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as required.Act as a trusted financial partner across the organization, communicating complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
7+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
Experience in real estate, property management, construction, or a related industry is an asset.
Previous experience managing and developing an accounting team.
Experience working in a multi-company environment.
Solid financial reporting, budgeting, cash-flow, audit, and internal controls experience.
Demonstrated success improving accounting processes, systems, and procedures.
Advanced Excel skills.
Experience with Procore is an asset.
Experience with accounting or property management platforms such as MRI, Maestro, or Yardi is an asset.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
