Position Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day operation, testing and maintenance of the water and sewer distribution systems

Direct Supervisor: Public Works Working Foreman

Pay Rate: $36.68/hour (2026) based on a 40-hour work week. Plus, a competitive benefit package (after 90-day Probation) 15% in lieu during probation period.

Job Description: Reporting to the Public Works Working Foreman, the Utility/Equipment Operator position maintains the water treatment and distribution system, sanitary sewer treatment and collection system and the storm sewer collection system; operates a variety of mobile heavy and small equipment common to municipal Public Works Department and perform the duties of a truck driver/labourer including snowplow work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Five years of municipal works experience, three years of direct hands‑on work experience with water and sewer maintenance and/or installation with the treatment and collection systems.

Completion of Grade 12 education or G.E.D.





Possess a minimum of a valid EOCP Level 1 Water Distribution Operator or a Level 1 Wastewater Treatment Operator.

Must hold a valid Class 5 Drivers License with air endorsement.

Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment.

The following additional qualifications/ experience considered an asset:

Level 2 or higher Water Distribution Operator certification.

Level 2 or higher Wastewater Treatment Operator certification.

Level 1 or higher Wastewater Collection Operator certification.

Possess a Cross Connection Control Tester certificate.

Class 3 Drivers License with an air endorsement.

Basic First Aid (Formerly Occupational First Aid Level 1)

Confined Space Entry training.

Fall Protection training.

Electrical Lockout training.

WHMIS certificate.

HOURS OF WORK
Monday through Friday 40 hours per week of varying work shifts or as otherwise directed by the Public Works Working Foreman. Willing to work a weekly on‑call schedule including weekends as agreed upon by the Village of Lumby.
