Legal Aid Alberta is seeking a Justice of the Peace Bail Duty Counsel Lawyer for a remote-work position across Alberta. This role emphasizes client service and high-quality legal representation.
As a full-time JP Bail Duty Counsel Lawyer, you will represent clients at Bail hearings and negotiate with Crown counsel. Your role will include preparing Bail plans and offering legal advice during critical interactions like Brydges calls. You must possess strong communication skills, have a Law degree, and understand Canadian criminal law.
Key Responsibilities:
• Represent clients during JP Bail hearings
• Negotiate Bail terms with Crown counsel
• Prepare effective Bail plans for clients
• Advise clients during Brydges calls
• Maintain accurate statistical records for LAA
Requirements:
• Law Degree from a recognized institution
• Active member of the Law Society of Alberta
• Minimum 2 years of criminal law experience
• Robust knowledge of Canadian bail law
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills
