The University of Toronto seeks a Sessional Instructional Assistant for its EEB380H1F course on Insect Diversity. Bring your entomological skills to enhance student learning through energetic lab and field experiences.
In this position within the Faculty of Arts & Science, you will work closely with students studying insect behavior, ecology, and taxonomy. Your expertise will guide students in preparing insect specimens while ensuring they understand the ecological significance of their studies. Collaborating with the instructor, you will provide necessary resources for labs and fieldwork, including mapping insect collections.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collect insects for lab demonstrations in August
• Develop and teach digital insect collection labs
• Coordinate relevant resources for taxonomy labs
• Assist in lab grading and instruction
• Lead weekend field trips for collections
Requirements:
• BSc in biology; academic entomology background
• Experience with insect collections and identification
• Proficiency in specimen preparation methods
• Preferred: MSc in biology focused on insect systematics
• Knowledge of insect families found in Ontario
