McMaster University andHamilton Health Sciencesareinviting applications for the position ofAdultStaff Intensivistwithin theDepartment of Medicine. This is a geographic, full-time positionas a Research-Educator. Academic rank will becommensuratewith the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Position:
Academic Intensivist. Full-time active staff appointmentin theNeuro-TraumaICU (NTICU) atHamilton General Hospital (HGH),Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University.The effective date of this appointment isJanuary1, 2027. The start date is negotiable.

Applicants must have a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine with certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent training and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario.Formal training in Neurocritical or Trauma Intensive Care is preferred. Those withsignificant experiencewith this patient population may also be considered.All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

This is aResearch-Educatortrack University appointmentwith expectationsthatthesuccessful candidatewill have or be completinggraduate studieswith a view to building a research program. The ideal candidate willhavea track recordof commitment tohigh-qualityresearch and academic productivity. Responsibilitiesinclude full time equivalent clinical intensive care practice as well ascommitmentsto research,education,and administration as required by all Staff Physicians in the Department of Critical Care Medicine.Clinicalexpertisein managingcritically illneurologic, trauma and burnspatients is mandatory.Thesuccessful candidate would be expected to supervise and teach learners from the undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and fellowship programs at McMaster University.

Candidacy for this positionwill be assessedby applicant’spostgraduate training, grant and publication history, awards,



teaching evaluations and program development and leadershippotential.The successful candidate will lead the inter-professional critical care team during clinical weeksasattendingICUphysician atHGHand other Critical Care services at Hamilton Health Sciences. In addition, the candidate will develop a body ofacademicwork aligned with theirclinical role. The successful candidate must also have strong interpersonal and communication skills andbe able tothrive withinaninterdisciplinaryand collaborative environment.

Hamilton Health Sciences is one of the largest hospital systems inOntarioand provides regional medical care to over 2 million people in southern Ontario. Hamilton Health Sciences is an academic hospital organization affiliated with McMaster Universityand ranked in the top 10 ofCanada’s research hospitals. The Department of Critical Care at Hamilton Health Sciences supports6Intensive Care Units across various sitesin Hamilton, including Hamilton General Hospital,JuravinskiHospital and Cancer Centre and McMaster University Medical Centre.The Hamilton General Hospital Campus includes the Population Health Research Institute and the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute.

Intensive Care Unit Description:
Across all sites, the physician group consists of 24 ICU Physicians whoare responsible forthe comprehensive care for all patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.HGHNTICUisa15-bedICU at HGH that provides critical care to patients fromNeurosurgery, Neurology, Stroke, Trauma,Spineand Burns.

The position will consist ofapproximately 13-weeksof total clinical work within critical careannuallyand will include responsibilities within theICU as well as on the Critical CareResponseTeam. NeurosciencesStepdown Unitclinical time is also a possibility. The successful applicantmayprovide coverage at McMaster University Medical Centre in the Women’s Reproductive Health ICU,similarother members of the Department.

Remuneration and Academic Standing:




Academic rank,salaryand contractual arrangements will becommensuratewith the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. For the successful candidateremunerationwill be competitive with the usual income range for an academic intensivist in the province of Ontario.
