POSITION SUMMARY: Work with key stakeholders within CHEO to coordinate the workplace violence prevention strategy in keeping with CHEO's "Safety First" priorities.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct /coordinate departmental workplace violence (WVP) hazard and risk assessments, in collaboration with the Joint health and Safety Committee (JHSC) at onsite and offsite locations.
Conduct /Facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) on WVP-related adverse events as indicated by CHEO's care review committee (CRC) and other departments as identified.
Review and follow up on staff incident/hazard reports - ensure appropriate classification of events and corrective action occurs.
Monitor and track violent incidents to determine level of potential risk to patients' staff and visitors/organizational reputation.
Prepare and analyze data and reports related to the effectiveness of occupational safety programs. This includes developing and assessment of key indicators and recommending appropriate program strategies.
Coordinate WPV prevention committee.
Work closely with quality improvement team to ensure corporate strategy goals and objectives are in place, including contributing to the Corporate Harm Index




Participate as a resource member to the Joint Health and Safety Committee at Smyth and at offsite locations.
Assist the Manager, Occupational Safety to develop and update policies and procedures for program operation.
Network with community partners, networks (including Solutions for Patient Safety) and consultants (PSHSA) regarding workplace violence prevention and occupational safety best practices..
Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of occupational safety programming and policies, to meet legislative/regulatory requirements and best practices.
Provide subject matter expertise in the interpretation and application of workplace violence legislation and policy to senior management, managers, JHSC's and Representatives.
Coordinate workplace violence training components to ensure all elements are in place.
Review and collaborate on physical/mechanical restraint program (e.g. training, standard work, policies)
Participate in Code White training program and Security training program.
Participate in non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI) training.
Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or in progress (Essential)
Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma program from an accredited college (Essential)
Completion of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training or awareness of the NVCI training program (Preferred)
Completion of a psychological first
