Join the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre as a Cultural Housing Support Worker in Halifax, NS. This full time role focuses on supporting Indigenous individuals in transitional housing through a cultural and trauma-informed approach.
The Cultural Housing Support Worker will provide essential support for unhoused Indigenous clients by utilizing culturally sensitive methods and practices. Candidates must have experience with navigation of resources, harm reduction strategies, and understanding complex needs related to housing. This role emphasizes a decolonized, client-centered approach aligned with Housing First principles.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and monitor individualized client-centered housing plans
• Advocate for clients' rights at systemic levels
• Provide crisis intervention and eviction prevention services
• Maintain accurate documentation and client data in HIFIS
• Transport clients to necessary appointments and meetings
Requirements:
• Diploma in community social services or equivalent experience
• Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous issues
• Minimum one year related work experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
