Mandatory Reliability Standards Engineer

Pay Rate: $35.00 - $42.69/hour, depending on experience

Contract Length: 52 weeks

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia (Hybrid)

Schedule: Full-time, 5 days/week

Raise is currently hiring a Mandatory Reliability Standards Engineer on behalf of our client. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Electrical Engineer to support transmission facility ratings, technical documentation, engineering data quality, and regulatory compliance activities within a major utility environment. Our client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description
We are currently hiring a Mandatory Reliability Standards Engineer to support the Transmission Sustainment Planning team with facility rating activities and engineering deliverables related to FAC-008 and FERC 881 requirements.

The successful candidate will assist with reviewing and updating facility rating documentation, coordinating information with external entities, maintaining technical records, supporting audit preparation, and ensuring engineering data remains accurate and current.

This is an entry-level engineering chance suited to a candidate with an Electrical Engineering background who has strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and an interest in power systems, transmission lines, and utility engineering.

The role offers primarily office-based work with approximately two days per week in the office and minimal travel, with occasional opportunities for field exposure.

Responsibilities

Respond to project-related facility rating requests by reviewing available technical documentation and identifying additional information required.

Review facility rating documentation and prepare updated ratings for project teams.

Support the annual review and maintenance of facility ratings.

Coordinate with approximately 20-30 external entities to obtain current ratings for jointly owned transmission lines.

Review and update facility ratings for utility-owned transmission lines.





Update facility ratings when new technical reports and engineering data become available.

Support the Transmission Sustainment Planning team in maintaining facility rating information.

Provide facility rating information to Transmission System Operations and Transmission Planning teams as required.

Assist with preparation of documentation related to FAC-008 requirements.

Support development and maintenance of RSAW documentation and audit preparation materials.

Assist with responding to technical data requests during audits.

Support updates to engineering standards, facility rating methodologies, and related documentation.

Assist with engineering asset data quality activities, including data entry, validation, review, and corrections.

Perform engineering calculations and technical reviews under the direction of senior engineering professionals.

Review technical documents and drawings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.

Participate in engineering activities in accordance with established standards, procedures, and professional practice requirements.

Qualifications

Entry-level to 1 year of relevant engineering experience, including co-op, internship, academic project, or equivalent experience.

Interest in or exposure to power systems, electrical transmission, transmission lines, or utility engineering.

Ability to review and update technical documentation, including facility rating documentation.

Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

Ability to learn complex technical processes through structured training and on-the-job experience.

Strong written communication skills, particularly for technical documentation.

Ability to follow established engineering procedures, standards, and methodologies.





Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple technical requests and documentation requirements.

Ability to work effectively under the supervision and guidance of senior engineering professionals.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Familiarity with CAD systems and engineering drawing standards.

Ability to use standard industry engineering design and analysis software.

Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Programming or scripting knowledge.

Previous co-op, internship, or project experience in the utility, energy, power, or transmission sector.

Exposure to regulatory, compliance, or audit-related engineering documentation.

Familiarity with facility ratings, transmission planning, power system engineering, or utility standards.

Experience working with technical databases, engineering records, or asset information systems.

Education and Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Science, or a related engineering discipline.

Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or another jurisdiction. Candidates who are eligible for registration as an EIT/GIT with EGBC may also be considered.

Additional Information

Hybrid work arrangement with approximately 2 days per week in the office.

The position is based at the Edmonds Office in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The role is primarily office-based with minimal travel.

Occasional opportunities for field exposure may be available.
