Interpreting designorders and creating upholstery stencils.

Selecting andsourcing upholstery materials.

Dismantling furniturefor upholstery preparation.

Measuring and cuttingleather or fabric with the aid of design stencils.

Installing foam andbatting to the furniture framework.

Installing andrepairing furniture webbing and seating springs.

Stretching out andinstalling fabric or leather coverings.

Stitching, gluing,and nailing fabric into place.

Smoothing outimperfections.

Conducting qualitychecks on completed orders.

Study work orders todetermine the amount and type of materials required to coverwork pieces

Follow sketches,patterns or blueprints to indicate cutting lines on fabricsusing chalks, pencils or paint

Measure and cutmaterials using manual or automated cutting instruments

Confer with customersprior to upholstery to determine their color, style, and fabricpreferences

Remove anchoringtacks and strip upholstered furniture down to its woodenframe

Examine furnitureframes, springs, and webbings to identify defects





Apply their knowledgeof upholstery to build or repair upholstered furniture using avariety of hand or power tools

Ensure projects arecompleted and delivered before set deadline

Cover wooden framewith soft materials such as cotton, felt pad, fiber orfoam to improve texture and appearance

Work with tools andmaterials such as glue, staples, saw, cement, tacks and nailguns

Secure work piecesand materials onto production equipment

Conduct routinemaintenance of work tools and upholstery machine

Finish upholsteredfurniture by attaching ornament trims, buttons, buckles, andgrommets

Operate sewingmachine to sew upholstery and join various sections ofcovering fabric

Replace defective orworn upholstery spring, webbing or wooden frame.

Requirements

High school diplomaor GED.

Proven workexperience as an upholsterer.

Detail-oriented.

Ability to draw andinterpret design templates.

Knowledge ofupholstery tools including hot knives, nail guns, andsewing equipment.

Ability to lift,pull, and manipulate heavy objects.

Ability to stand,kneel, and walk for up to eight hours a day.
