Job Description Overview AtkinsRealis is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Equipment and Piping Designer/Drafter with experience in the heavy industrial sector, including but not limited to hydropower generation (balance of plant systems, hydromechanical equipment, and HVAC) as well as power transmission and distribution. Job duties Develop and maintain detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and process equipment, using industry-standard CAD/BIM tools.
Perform multidisciplinary coordination of mechanical designs by integrating models with architectural, structural, and electrical systems to ensure alignment, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
Lead and support BIM coordination activities, including clash detection, model reviews, and resolution of inter-discipline conflicts in accordance with BIM Execution Plans (BEPs).
Prepare and finalize engineering drawing packages for construction and review, including general arrangement drawings, piping layouts, HVAC drawings, and material take-offs (BOMs).
Design and model mechanical systems and components such as ductwork, piping systems, valves, pipe supports, storage tanks, pumps, and material handling equipment to meet project specifications and applicable standards.
Develop detailed layouts for plant and facility infrastructure, including aboveground and underground installations,
ensuring proper equipment placement and accessibility for operations and maintenance.
Conduct quality control checks on models and drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project standards, including LOD 300-500 deliverables.
Review vendor drawings and construction submittals, providing technical feedback to ensure compatibility with design intent and project specifications.
Provide technical drafting and design support to engineering teams, incorporating markups, revisions, and design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams to develop practical and constructible mechanical design solutions.
Requirements Diploma or advanced diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design/Drafting Technology, or a closely related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial mechanical experience.
Demonstrated knowledge in the design and production of engineering drawings, particularly within the hydropower industry.
Strong proficiency in 3D design and drafting tools, including Revit, AutoCAD, AutoPLANT, and SolidWorks.
Preference will be given to candidates with Revit MEP experience and prior involvement in multidisciplinary BIM project execution using this software.
Familiarity with BIM-related software, including Navisworks, BIM 360, and ReCap.
Exceptional attention to detail, with strong self-checking and quality control skills.
Strong working knowledge of heavy mechanical equipment in the hydropower industry; experience with piping systems is considered an asset.
Proven experience developing BIM models for HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, and drainage systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently once tasks and objectives are defined.
Fluent in English, with strong reading, writing, and professional communication skills suitable for technical documentation and stakeholder coordination.
Working knowledge of French is considered an asset, supporting collaboration in bilingual project environments.

Full time, permanent position - 40 hours per week
Salary range: 78,300.00 - 101,500.00 CAD
