Position Description
A temporary full time (1.0) Learning Assistant/Special Education Resource/Early Literacy Intervention Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at Hudson's Hope Elementary/Jr. Secondary School.

Hudson’s Hope School is a close community composed of students ages 0 years to grade twelve. Many of our students enjoy their entire educational experience with the same peer group over their time at HHS. The age range within the school allows for incredible inter-generational teaching and learning experiences for our students.Our school is nestled in the Peace River valley, within walking distance of the Peace River, and a short drive to the School District’s Cameron Lake Outdoor Education Center. Qualifications and Experience

Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)

Reading Recovery Training or specialized early literacy intervention training and Reading Recovery TC/ or willing to train with the District.

Understanding that literacy acquisition is a complex process

Cognizant of the importance of using all available teaching time for assessment, selection and the teaching of Reading Recovery children

Training and experience as an LAT

Able to administer, analyze and summarize data from comprehensive literacy assessments as well as Daily Running Records

Able to plan and respond to the complex literacy needs of students using the district procedures

Be responsive to the needs of the student utilizing different instructional scaffolds

Ability to build oral language, reading and writing activities that meet the learning needs of all students

Knowledge of different ways to monitor and share student progress





Proficient with technology with the ability to use a variety of applications needed to complete year end paperwork

Committed to the social, emotional, physical and academic development of each student

Experienced working with the school team

Ability to be collaborative with district literacy intervention colleagues both informally and during Continuing Contact In-Service Sessions

Ability to teach lessons for colleagues during In-Service Sessions

Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills

Has strong interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills including the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, administrators, and other team members

Commitment to early literacy and early intervention

Commitment to working with colleagues on staff development activities linked to the school's Framework for Enhancing Student Learning

Knowledge of the learning outcomes and evaluation process to support the classroom programs with different strategies

Demonstrates success in achieving quality outcomes for all students

Experience working with students with complex needs

Strong management techniques that maintain an effective learning environment and student dignity

Ability to communicated & Liaise with SBT and classroom teachers to support literacy interventions

Interested applicants are required to supply

Three (3) references

Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)

Compensation

$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas

$3,500 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)

Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $72,720 - $118.770





Isolation allowance of $726.59 paid over 10 months

Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Perks are employer paid based on FTE
