Term of App't: Monday - Friday (35 hours per week) until Dec 31.26 with a possibility of an extensionStart date: ImmediatelyReporting to: Director of Indigenous Education Location: Dawson Creek Salary:Classification 13 $29.92 - $30.85/hour in accordance with the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees are provided with an additional $0.58/hour in lieu of perks, and 6% vacation pay, for all regular hours worked. Description:As the Indigenous Cultural Guide, you will provide culturally responsive, holistic, and respectful support services that promote Indigenous student success. Working closely with the Director of Indigenous Education and the Indigenous Student Navigators, you will support Indigenization and reconciliation initiatives while creating meaningful learning opportunities for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, employees and community members.You will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and facilitating cultural events, ceremonies and activities. This includes building and maintaining strong relationships with local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders, as well as arranging for appropriate Nation representatives, Knowledge Keepers , and Elders to participate in cultural ceremonies, teachings, events and activities.The Indigenous Cultural Guide will foster cultural connections that strengthen Indigenous student engagement, belonging, wellness and success., Through weekly gatherings and activities, You will facilitate Indigenous learning experiences using storytelling, oral histories, demonstrations, land-based and experiential learning, and other culturally relevant approaches.The regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility required to support occasional evening or weekend events and activities.



Regular travel between campuses and within the region is required.*Please note – The term of this position is until Dec 31.26 with a possibility of an extension. Qualifications:Required:Completion of Grade 12 required. Two years of relevant post-secondary education with three to five years of experience working with Indigenous students, communities, and Elders preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.Demonstrated experience and cultural training to lead and support traditional and contemporary Indigenous arts, cultural activities and teachings, including knowledge and the ability to facilitate Indigenous art, song, dance, storytelling, and other cultural practices.Demonstrated interpersonal competency, including an understanding of verbal and non-verbal communication and the ability to work respectfully with diverse communities and respond strategically for event planning and management. Knowledge and appreciation of the cultural diversity among Indigenous People in Canada, and the college service area, with the service excellence approach with Elders, students and staff that includes the ability to share and provide Indigenous perspective and relevant approach. The ability to maintain a high standard of work in a fast-paced environment and contribute collaboratively as a team. A current valid driver's license.
