Position Description At Fonterra Te Mātāpuna, we want everyone to feel they can be themselves. Whether you're early in your career or ready for your next step, Fonterra offers a unique opportunity to grow with a global dairy co-operative that values care, collaboration, and contribution. Owned by New Zealand dairy farmers and supported by a dedicated team, we are all working together to create a better future. Imagine tomorrow with us, where your career can grow, and you can create positive change.
About us We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join our Capital Projects Leadership Team as Head of Portfolio, Ingredients & Foodservice. Reporting to the GM Capital Projects, you'll lead the people, stakeholder relationships and delivery of one of Fonterra’s most significant capital portfolios. With accountability for major projects and programmes across Ingredients & Foodservice, you'll work closely with senior leaders to translate strategic priorities into investment decisions and successful delivery outcomes.
This role extends well beyond portfolio delivery. We’re looking for a leader who can bring clarity to complexity, influence across a broad stakeholder landscape and help shape the future direction of the portfolio. You'll play a key role in strengthening relationships across the business, enabling high-quality decision making and building a culture that supports collaboration, accountability and high performance.
As a people leader, you'll be passionate about developing capability and creating an environment where teams can thrive. You’ll lead through influence, foster a strong culture of psychological safety and empower your team to deliver outstanding outcomes while continuously improving the way we work.
This role can be based in Auckland, Hamilton or Christchurch and offers the chance to make a lasting impact on both the portfolio and the wider Capital Projects function.
About You You are a highly experienced capital portfolio leader with a proven track record of shaping investment strategy, leading large-scale capital portfolios and delivering sustainable business outcomes within large and dynamic organisations. You know how to navigate ambiguity, bring structure to complexity and align diverse stakeholders behind a common goal. Equally comfortable operating at a strategic and operational level, you have the ability to influence senior leaders, make sound decisions and drive outcomes in challenging environments. Most importantly, you're a people leader who understands that strong cultures drive strong performance. You have experience building engaged, high-performing teams and developing talent while leading through periods of change and growth.
To Be Successful In This Role, You'll Bring
Significant experience leading large-scale capital delivery portfolios, programmes or projects within complex organisations.
Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage, challenge and build alignment at senior leadership levels.
Proven success leading and developing high-performing teams and leaders.
Strong governance, portfolio management and commercial acumen, with the ability to balance risk, value, capacity and delivery outcomes.
Experience delivering business benefits through strategic investment programmes.
Experience in process-based industries, ideally food or dairy.
The ability to bring clarity to complexity, set direction and drive execution in dynamic environments.
A collaborative leadership style and a passion for building capability and culture.
A project,
programme or portfolio management qualification would be advantageous.
