Merlis Belsher Place is a state-of-the-art recreation facility located on the campus of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and operated by Nustadia Recreation Inc. The facility includes the following:
Community Practice Rink
Varsity team spaces
Multipurpose rooms
Sports Science and Health Center
Concession
Opening in October 2018, the facility is the home of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Men’s and Women’s hockey, basketball and soccer teams as well as the U18AAA Saskatoon Stars and U18AAA Saskatoon Contacts programs. Merlis Belsher Place also serves the minor hockey, ringette, speedskating and para-hockey communities as well as serving as an event center.
To ensure the success of the facility, Nustadia Recreation is looking for a motivated team member with proven operational and maintenance experience, preferably in a recreation facility workplace to serve as Operations Manager. This individual will be experienced in communication with multiple stakeholders, enthusiastic and able to represent Nustadia Recreation Inc with professionalism and community minded focus.
The Operations Manager is responsible for the following:
Supervise the facility operations using NRI’s “Best Practices” methodology for arena operations which includes:
Oversee all aspects of building operations including arena and gymnasium operations and maintenance, HVAC, lighting, etc. This would include but not limited to capital improvements, refrigeration maintenance and servicing and health and safety
Maintain a comprehensive facility maintenance program
Maintain a comprehensive facility risk management program
Hire, train and supervise full and part-time facility operators and Arena Attendants
Develop and manage a mentorship training program for all arena operators
Oversee the refrigeration system and its efficient operations
Develop and manage departmental financial and budgeting program consultation with the facility General Manager
Implement policy and procedure manual specific to relevant staff
Oversee any capital projects as required
Ensure all programs are following local regulatory requirements including WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety.
Oversee building maintenance contracts and negotiating various supplier agreements
Oversee general event operations and work non-traditional hours to meet the goals and objectives of building operations
Minimum job requirements: Degree in Recreation or related field, or equivalent education and experience such as Saskatchewan Refrigeration Plant Operator, 2nd Class Certificate of 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate is considered an asset. Completion of Arena Certification Level 1&2 or equivalent, 2-3 years’ experience in ice maintenance and 2-3 years in a supervisory position.
