The Community Support Worker (CSW) works alongside the Family & CommunityDevelopment Coordinator to provide frontline community support focused on buildingrelationships with community members, supporting daily centre operations, assisting withprograms and services, and creating a welcoming and responsive presence within theResource Centre.The CSW position is part of a Pathways Program, designed to both strengthen ResourceCentre services and provide professional development opportunities within thecommunity.
Duties
- Support the daily operations of the Resource Centre to ensure the effective delivery of programs and services.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and responsive environment for participants, families, and visitors.
- Work collaboratively with staff to plan, deliver, and enhance ResourceCentre programming.
- Greet visitors, answer and direct phone calls, and respond to general inquiries in a qualified manner.
- Assist participants by providing information, addressing needs, and referring complex or specialized inquiries to the appropriate staff member.
- Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
- Supervise and engage children through age-appropriate activities and play.
- Facilitate drop-in services and support the delivery of core Resource Centre programs.
- Assist with the planning and facilitation of specialized programs, including Basics of Babysitting, Ready Set Solo,
Bookmates, and preschool programming.
- Provide coverage and support for Resource Centre, child, and youth programming as required.
- Coordinate, organize, and distribute clothing donations and other community resources.
- Participate in team meetings, committees, and working groups by contributing ideas and supporting organizational initiatives.
- Maintain accurate program records and assist with the development and distribution of newsletters, community flyers, and other communication materials.
- Support the upkeep of the Resource Centre by organizing spaces, maintaining cleanliness, preparing program materials, and assisting with meal and snack preparation.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Demonstratedability to work in a community setting and strong working knowledge
of community resources
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to maintain strong boundaries while working and living in the community; recognizing the
challenge that comes with dual roles of a community member and a resource centre
staff member
- Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity; being able to engage with participants from avariety of backgrounds with differing beliefs, values and experiences
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment and with a broad array ofpeople
- Knowledge of child development, behavior management, family dynamics,interpersonal communication and conflict resolution.
