We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing accounting and tax practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing compilation engagements, corporate and personal tax compliance, identifying tax planning opportunities, and supervising a team of staff accountants.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives on reviewing complex files, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of client deliverables. The successful candidate will play a key role in reviewing files before manager and partner sign off while managing workflow and developing a team of accounting professionals.

Key Responsibilities Compilation Engagements & Financial Statements

Review and/or prepare compilation engagement files prepared by staff for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with

CSRS 4200

standards.

Review financial statements for proper presentation, formatting, and consistency with client source documentation using

CaseWare/Jazz It

software.

Ensure supporting working papers are complete, well-organized, and audit ready in accordance with CSRS 4200 standards.

Identify and address technical or documentation issues prior to manager and partner review.

Escalate technical or risk issues to managers and partners as appropriate.

Corporate & Personal Tax

Review

T2 corporate income tax returns

prepared by staff, including all schedules, ensuring files are complete and ready for manager and partner sign off.

Prepare and review more complex T2 returns, including multi-jurisdictional filings, foreign reporting, SR&ED; claims, and related-party transactions.

Review and/or prepare

T1 personal tax returns

as required.

Identify tax planning opportunities and flag risk areas, including shareholder loans, associated and related corporations, and





RDTOH/GRIP tracking.

Ensure all corporate and personal tax returns are accurate and filed within required deadlines.

Respond to CRA queries, reviews, and audits on behalf of clients.

Assist in identifying tax planning opportunities and strategies for owner-managed businesses and individuals.

Team Leadership & Quality Control

Supervise and manage a team of approximately four staff accountants.

Review staff work product, provide constructive feedback, and coach team members on technical and process improvements.

Support staff development through mentorship and on the job training.

Delegate work effectively while maintaining quality control and ensuring deadlines are met.

Manage workflow and deadlines across multiple client files, particularly during peak T1 and T2 filing periods.

Escalate technical, compliance, or risk issues to managers and partners as appropriate.

Qualifications Required

CPA designation or in the final stages of CPA completion.

Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in public practice accounting.

Demonstrated experience

reviewing , not solely preparing, T2 corporate tax returns.

Experience preparing and reviewing T1 personal tax returns.

Prior experience managing or supervising a team of four or more staff.

Strong working knowledge of CSRS 4200 compilation engagement standards.

Proficiency with tax software such as TaxCycle, ProFile, or CCH, CaseWare and CaseView.





Strong understanding of Canadian corporate and personal taxation.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing deadlines effectively.

Preferred

Experience with Jazz It software.

Exposure to multi-jurisdictional tax filings, foreign reporting requirements, and SR&ED; claims.

Familiarity with corporate reorganizations, estate freezes, or income-splitting strategies.

Experience responding to CRA audits, reviews, or notices of objection.

Knowledge of ASPE and/or IFRS.

Experience with practice management software such as Karbon or Jetpack Workflow.

Prior experience in a public accounting firm serving small to mid sized, owner managed businesses.
