The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives. Reporting to the Sentence Administration Supervisor or Chief Sentence Administrator, this position is responsible for the administration of orders made by the court, calculation of sentences, the appearance of inmates in court as ordered and to ensure that the detention of the accused is lawful. This is accomplished by comprehending and correctly interpreting often complex legal documents and other information received from courts, police and judicial stakeholders. You must maintain a high level of knowledge to incorporate the many policy and legal rules associated with calculating sentences and must accumulate information from the JOIN (Justice on-line Information Network) system and CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre)



system to determine detention and release eligibility. Together with information gathered from legal documents as well as these systems and in conjunction with a high level of working knowledge, you must administer dispositions to carry out the intention of the court. In addition to the above outlined duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for: Maintaining offender warrant files Comprehending and correctly interpreting legal documents Preparing, managing, and updating inmate legal files Complex sentence calculations, including Conditional Sentence Orders Interpreting complex legal documents and dispositions prepared by the court to ensure lawful detention or release of an accused. Liaising with Sheriffs and Court stakeholders to coordinate the transportation of inmates to their court dates. High School Diploma plus three (3) years of Sentence Administration related experience which includes administrative work, data entry, and/or legal administration. Preference will be given to those with post-secondary education in a related field (Criminal Justice, Legal Administration, Sociology, etc.) and to those who have work experience in a related setting (correctional centre, criminal law office, etc.). Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of: 1 years of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year education Assets: Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice or Legal Administration Working experience providing criminal law administration assistance. Experience working, reading, and interpreting legal documents. Working experience with Government systems such as JOIN, ORCA, or CPIC Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification. Location: Calgary Young Offender Centre and Adult Female Annex – 12626 85 Street NW, Calgary. You will be required to attend a 3-week training program in Edmonton. Accomodations are provided. Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday but alternating between day and afternoon/evening shift. Final candidates will be required to provide a Fingerprint Based Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. Public transportation to the Centre is limited and the successful candidate is required to have access to reliable transportation. Parking is available.
