Job Summary

Cape Breton University and Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine collaborate through the Cape Breton Medical Campus to support medical education, while also coordinating training, student support, and program operations across connected campuses. Reporting to the Director of Distributed Medical Education, the Regional Manager is responsible for overseeing residency programs, clerkships, and undergraduate, postgraduate, and MPAS learner activities within the region.

Key Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership and administration of regional medical education programs, ensuring effective delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate training, alignment with institutional priorities, and compliance with policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.

Serve as the primary regional liaison for medical education, building and maintaining partnerships with academic departments, health system stakeholders, and community organizations to support program development, learner experience, and faculty engagement.

Oversee planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of medical education activities, including academic year planning, accreditation processes, site visits, program evaluations, and the effective use of educational technologies.

Lead and manage site-based administrative teams by overseeing recruitment, performance management, workflow optimization, and career development, while ensuring adequate resources and support for program delivery.

Provide administrative governance and expert support to local and provincial committees, ensuring effective operations, clear communication, and implementation of departmental, faculty, university, and health system policies and procedures.





Ensure sound financial and operational stewardship by overseeing budgets and supporting accurate reporting and effective resource allocation.

Note

The successful applicant will primarily work remotely from within Nova Scotia. Occasional in-person attendance at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Aberdeen Hospital, Colchester East Hants Health Centre, and Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre will be required. The successful applicant will also be required to work outside standard business hours, to travel within the region, and to meet location-based work requirements.

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in education management, preferably within an academic healthcare environment.

Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage teams, supervise staff, and drive performance.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, solve complex problems, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.

Demonstrated experience engaging with stakeholder groups or communities, building trusted relationships, and/or an ability to develop understanding of their unique needs to support effective and respectful collaboration.

Assets

Knowledge of business management principles, including budgeting, strategic planning, and data analysis.

Familiarity with academic medical education systems, including undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Understanding of healthcare, university, and provincial policies, procedures, and regulatory environments.

Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in medical education or healthcare administration.
