What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025, Aecon will support the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site. The Nuclear Fabrication Robotic Welding Technician will be responsible for the oversight of nuclear fabrication production, continuous improvement of fabrication safety, quality and productivity, and ongoing support of the production staff and operations. What You'll Do Here
Contribute technical input and development efforts to create and refine production welding activities. Investigate welding technology improvements and refinements. Ongoing production monitoring and status communications. Technical liaison between production, manufacturing technical experts, and Centre of Excellence departments. Keep track of technical issues, resolve them, and prevent future instances. Procure, maintain and manage spare parts stock of robotic devices, sensors, tools or other related materials. Work with quality inspectors to facilitate robotic inspection activities. Troubleshoot all aspects of robotic system operational issues (welding, inspection, repairs). Support fabrication and shop production activities. Generate all required project status reports for internal management and for customers. Coordinate with the COE team to support the project team in budget and forecast management during execution to accurately reflect project status. Assist in developing, troubleshooting, designing, testing and training with various types of welding processes and pieces of equipment. Responsible for training production staff as required. Provide technical direction to production staff. What You Bring To The Team
College and/or University degree in Engineering or a related field related to robotics, material handling and welding. Minimum 4 years of practical hands-on robotic programming experience is required. Knowledge of ASME, CWB or AWS welding codes is an asset. Strong background experience programming software systems for robotic, automated and/or mechanized automation/welding systems.
Knowledgeable with the programming and operation of Fanuc welding systems. Experience with production GMAW welding. Exposure to heavy welding machinery and tooling design and development is an asset. Strong understanding of manufacturing plant design and process engineering principles (cycle times, takt times, etc.). Strong understanding of value-added and non-value-added operations within a manufacturing facility. Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral). Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees. Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge. Detail-oriented. Must possess a valid G driver’s license and have access to a vehicle. Takes pride in work to strive for excellence and instill this mindset in others. A passion for welding is an asset, specifically heavy multipass welding. Have a willingness to mentor and share knowledge. Practices a strong safety culture. Must have a positive attitude to develop and test new solutions to solve a variety of technical welding issues. The ability to think “out of the box” is an asset. Hands-on experience with manufacturing tools and welding is an asset. Familiar with welding principles is preferred (basics of arc welding, types of welding, etc.). Familiar with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery is an asset. Results-oriented and takes ownership of tasks assigned. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Willingness to continuously learn, try new approaches, experiment with new technologies and push the envelope related to welding, manufacturing, machinery and tooling development. The expected pay range for this role is $75,000 - $100,000 per year. Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions.
