John Knox Christian School (Elementary Campus) is seeking applicants who desire to be a part-time (0.4 FTE) school counsellor beginning in the 2026/27 school year.
Summary Established in 1955, John Knox Christian School is committed to providing high-quality, Christ-centred education that equips students to use their gifts in service to God and others. In love, we seek to nurture the whole child by working collaboratively with staff, families, and students to support well-being, belonging, and mental health. The School Counsellor plays an important role in this shared work by providing direct support to students and partnering with teachers and parents when students face emotional, relational, behavioural, and/or family-related challenges. Through thoughtful care, practical support, and collaboration with the school community, the School Counsellor helps students feel safe, supported, and better able to navigate challenges at school and in life.
Responsibilities
Provide individual, small-group, and classroom-based counselling to support students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and personal development.
Deliver preventative and intervention-based counselling services using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.
Support students in building self-awareness, emotional regulation, social skills, problem-solving abilities, and resiliency.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and school-based teams to promote student well-being and success.
Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other student support plans.
Provide consultation to staff and families regarding student mental health, behaviour, and social-emotional needs.
Coordinate referrals and connect students and families with community support services (as needed).
Support students and families during school transitions.
Contribute to student goal-setting, decision-making, and personal planning through age-appropriate activities.
Maintain confidential and accurate documentation in accordance with school policies and skilled standards.
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum education: Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology
Currently a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) or Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Team-oriented preferred experience
At least one year of experience working with children
$60/hour
