Overview

The Principal Design Engineer is an individual contributor subject matter expert within CB&I; Storage Solutions for one or more technologies or product lines and will commonly serve as CB&I; Storage Solutions industry representative through code committee work or participation in communities of practice. The role is responsible for performing or checking design and analysis of assigned deliverables on a CB&I; Storage Solutions project associated with a plate structures product line such as tanks, vessels, structures, modules, foundations, and other site facilities. The work includes among other things, conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations, specification development and construction documents. The Principal Design Engineer works independently with minimal supervision and may be responsible to train or supervise the work of a less experienced engineer. The role reports to the Department or Design Manager and routinely interacts with other Plate Structures Engineers, Plate Structures Designers, Project Engineers and Managers. Responsibilities

Accurately produce deliverables per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications. Adhere to regulations and bylaws of local professional engineering jurisdictions and code of ethics in protection of the public and the environment. Ensure designs and details are safe for field erection and use,



with constructability in mind. Reliably check and sign off design calculations, specifications and other deliverables for customer approval or project use per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications. Compare designs and details to as-sold estimate and customer documents and advise project team of discrepancies and potential change notices. Coordinate with other roles and functions on project team. Forecast how long it will take to do a task - commit to definitive deadlines. Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to less experienced plate structures engineers. Make decisions on project-specific details and advise project team. Generate improvement ideas for tools and workflow associated to the role, and develop investment justification. Implement improvement initiatives within the department and/or broader organization. Contribute to the technical body of knowledge within area of expertise. Maintain a professional license in at least one jurisdiction, and approve and stamp project deliverables Local Requirements

Supervision of junior design Engineers. Overseeing technical content, safety, and quality, while maintaining project cost and schedule Ensure department compliance with regulations and bylaws of provincial Engineering associations and company standards Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering Required Is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience with 15+ years of relevant experience.



Skilled Engineering License in at least one province required. Experience with storage tanks and/or pressure vessels and familiar with their respective design codes (i.e. API 650, API 620, ASME Section VIII Div1/Div2) Strong, clear and concise written and oral communication skills. Self-motivated, team-oriented, organized and the ability to successfully multi-task French an asset Common Performance Metrics Leadership - having vision and drive; taking initiative and motivating others, decision maker.
