Pact is looking for a Shopify-fluent Producer/Project Manager to run client projects and retainers end to end – schedules, scope, budget, communication, and the hundred small things that keep everything moving.
You'll be the connective tissue between our designers, developers, and clients: the person who knows what's happening, what's next, and what's about to become a problem.
You need to understand Shopify well enough to hold your own in a technical conversation.
The ideal candidate has run real projects, has seen builds go wrong and learned from it, and doesn't need someone checking their work. You'll own the commercial mechanics of your projects – tracking hours and budget against scope, making informed tradeoffs when scope shifts, and having those conversations with clients directly and early.
You're not yet expected to own commercial strategy or account growth; that support exists above you, along with senior Producers and leadership to lean on.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Own client projects from kickoff through launch – timelines, milestones, dependencies, and delivery
Build and maintain realistic project schedules, and keep them current as things shift
Track project and retainer budgets against scope, monitor burn, and flag early when a project is trending over
Communicate budget and scope realities directly to clients – what's been consumed, what a request will cost, and what the tradeoffs are
Make and defend internal tradeoffs when scope shifts, deciding with the team what gets cut, deferred, or re-estimated
Contribute to scoping and estimation alongside developers, bringing informed challenge rather than transcription
Run the day-to-day client relationship: status updates, check-in calls, and transparent written communication
Coordinate designers and developers, making sure everyone knows what they're working on and what's blocking them
Track scope carefully and raise it early when a request exceeds what was agreed – before it quietly becomes a problem
Translate client requests into technically coherent requirements the team can act on without a second round of questions
Spot risks ahead of time and bring solutions, not just warnings
Keep project documentation, notes, and task boards organized and genuinely useful
Run meaningful QA passes, and coordinate feedback rounds, launch checklists, and post-launch follow-up
REQUIREMENTS Shopify Experience
3+ years managing Shopify projects, with meaningful time at an ecommerce or DTC agency
Hands-on Shopify experience across multiple builds, and a track record of shipping site builds on time
Understanding of modern Shopify theme architecture – sections, blocks, metafields, and metaobjects – and the ability to reason about what a design change implies for build effort
Ability to tell the difference between a theme customization, an app-based solution, and custom development, and which one a client's request really needs
Knowledge of where Shopify's limits are: checkout customization and what Plus unlocks, variant and product constraints, what's genuinely hard versus merely fiddly
Familiarity with the common app ecosystem and its knock-on effects – that subscriptions mean ReCharge or similar, that each app carries performance and integration cost, that app conflicts are a real category of bug
Understanding of replatform and migration realities: product data mapping, URL redirects, SEO implications, and the things that bite three weeks in
Bonus if you've led a replatform or large-scale migration end to end, or worked on Shopify Plus projects
Technical Skills
Ability to triage an issue before escalating it: theme problem, app conflict, data problem, or client error
Understanding of the shape of Shopify's APIs – Storefront versus Admin, webhooks, what's possible via integration – at a level sufficient to discuss high-level, not to build
Working knowledge of theme deployment and previews, and the ability to QA a staging environment properly
A working grasp of web performance – Core Web Vitals, script weight – and why it's a commercial issue for a storefront, not just a technical one
Fluency with project management tooling (Asana, Confluence, or similar)
Bonus if you have any hands-on design or development background, however informal
Professional Skills
Commercial awareness: an understanding that scope decisions carry budget, margin, and timeline implications, and the confidence to raise them with clients
Excellent written communication – your updates are clear, your notes are useful, and nothing important lives only in your head
Real organizational discipline: you track details, follow up without being reminded, and close loops
Reliability under pressure – when a launch week gets messy, you get calmer and more methodical, not less
Comfort with ambiguity and incomplete client briefs
Empathy and directness in the same person – you can deliver bad news to a client kindly and still hold the line on scope
Bonus if you've juggled several concurrent clients with competing priorities, or speak additional languages given our clients and team span several regions
