Salary Range:

$59,931.74 To $70,575.60 Annually

About the Job The Financial Support Worker is responsible for delivering a range of financial support services that empower individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, housing, and financial challenges to achieve greater financial independence and stability. The role includes providing one-on-one financial literacy education, budgeting support, trusteeship services, and financial case management tailored to each client's goals and recovery journey.

The Financial Support Worker is also responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, and managing program-related financial documentation using accounting software and spreadsheet systems. Working collaboratively with the Finance Manager and interdisciplinary teams, the Financial Support Worker helps ensure clients have access to appropriate benefits, income supports, and community resources while supporting housing retention and overall wellbeing.

Through a client-centered, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed approach, the Financial Support Worker plays a key role in helping clients develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to manage their finances effectively and maintain successful community living.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide clients with financial-based case management including but not limited to; budgeting to align with Wellness plan and program guidelines, housing retention support, and financial literacy counselling

Provide voluntary trusteeship and financial literacy through one-on-one counseling and case management for program participants which may include arranging appropriate benefits and entitlements from Ontario Disability Support Program, CPP, Ontario Works, debt sources and other income programs

Develop and deliver financial literacy workshops

Administer the daily accounting and financial management of the program

Data Entry, spreadsheet development/management, book keeping and reconciliation

Ensure appropriate records are kept and ensure that statistical information is maintained as per agency standards

Develop program materials, accounting practices, and financial tools in collaboration with Program Managers and Finance staff





Work collaboratively with partnering organizations for mediating housing retention at The Landlord Tenant Board

Complete evaluations and feedback surveys with applicants and/or their families

Understand and be able to integrate a philosophy of client-centred care into daily responsibilities

Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP’s Mission and Values

Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework in the promotion of client safety

Perform additional duties as required/delegated by Management

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Social Services, Community Services, Human Services, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

Minimum two (2) years of experience supporting individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, homelessness, poverty, or other complex life challenges

Experience providing financial literacy education, money management support, budgeting assistance, trusteeship services, or other financial case management supports

Experience maintaining accurate financial records, including bookkeeping, account reconciliation, recording cheques and deposits, and managing client financial transactions

Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software, with demonstrated experience maintaining financial records and generating reports

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, including the ability to develop and maintain spreadsheets and tracking systems

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client financial accounts with a high degree of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and attention to detail

Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles sufficient to manage program financial records and client trust accounts





Experience assisting individuals in accessing income supports and perks, including Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Ontario Works (OW), CPP, and other financial assistance programs

Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of mental health challenges, substance use, homelessness, trauma, and poverty, and their intersection with financial stability

Robust interpersonal, engagement, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with vulnerable and marginalized individuals

Experience collaborating with community partners, landlords, government agencies, and other service providers to support client outcomes

Strong assessment, problem-solving, risk management, and documentation skills

Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and maintaining professional boundaries

Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License

Access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage

Valid certification in CPI, CPR/First Aid, and ASIST, or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe

Reporting Function The Financial Support Worker will report directly to the Finance Manager. They may have program requirements assignment by the Program Manager. They will work with both internal and external partners and will interact with all levels within the organization.

They will be a support system, resource, and an advocator for the team and Organization.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Temporary position until July 27, 2027

Hours are typically from Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm but may vary depending on client needs including evenings and weekends as required

Average amount of physical effort is required

Able to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time

Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use

Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)

Vehicle travel to sites for visits/walk-throughs and open doors as required
