Position DetailsJob Number:JR01579Department:Coding and Health InformationJob Type:Regular, Full timeWork Environment:HybridContract Duration: (If applicable)0 monthsNumber of Positions:1Hourly Rate (Min / Max):$ - $55.026ScheduleWork Days:Monday to FridayTime of Day:DaysShift:Hours - 7.5Shift Start: (If applicable)Reason for Posting:Posting is for a role with an existing vacancyApplication DatesOpening Date: Closing Date: Job DescriptionKey ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership, Education, and Operational OversightProvide day-to-day leadership, oversight, training, and support to Clinical Coding Specialists.Monitor coding productivity, quality metrics, workflow management, and reporting deadlines.Provide guidance on CIHI coding standards, DAD and NACRS abstracting requirements, Ministry directives, and organizational policies.Lead data quality initiatives, analyze audit findings and develop communication and improvement strategies to address knowledge gaps and coding trends.Act as a subject matter expert for coding inquiries and complex case reviews.Educate staff on case mix methodologies, CMG/HIG weighting, Quality Based Procedures (QBP), and funding implications.Participate in recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management activities.Clinical Documentation Improvement and Funding OptimizationLead clinical documentation improvement initiatives that enhance coding accuracy, reporting quality, and funding outcomes.Partner with physicians, clinicians, operational leaders, and Digital Solutions teams to improve documentation practices.Identify documentation gaps, risk areas, and trends that impact coding completeness and case mix reporting.Develop, maintain, and improve data quality standards, audit processes, data dictionaries, documentation guidelines, and reporting controls.Reporting, Analytics,
and Regulatory ComplianceManage timely and accurate submission of DAD, NACRS, ERNI, opioid reporting, and other mandatory provincial and national reporting requirements.Monitor compliance with submission schedules and regulatory deadlines.Analyze coded clinical data to support funding, quality improvement, operational planning, utilization management, and organizational decision-making.QualificationsGraduate of a recognized Health Information Management diploma program.Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related discipline preferred.Active certified member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).Additional certifications related to health information management, healthcare analytics, or clinical documentation improvement considered an asset.ExperienceMinimum three-to-five (3-5) years of current DAD and NACRS coding and abstracting experience.Minimum three (3) years of experience with CIHI data submissions and regulatory reporting requirements.Demonstrated advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CA/CCI classifications, DAD and NACRS Abstracting Manuals, Canadian Coding Standards, Ministry directives and funding methodologies.St. Joseph’s Health System (SJHS) and its member organizations are equal chance employers and strives for equity, inclusiveness, and diversity in all programs, practices, facilities, and people.
