POSITION OBJECTIVE Acting in a leadership capacity, the Charge Technologist will assist the Manager to ensure efficient utilization within the department. This includes supporting the Niagara Health and the Niagara Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (NRLMP) in the provision of high-quality laboratory services to assist physicians and healthcare providers in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
The Charge Technologist provides leadership and supervision within the Biochemistry discipline, ensuring laboratory testing meets all legislated and accreditation requirements. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, supporting staff, and ensuring compliance with laboratory policies and the NRLMP Quality Management System.
The incumbent supports management initiatives, including operational, financial, and quality objectives; prepares and analyzes statistical data and reports; and contributes to continuous quality improvement. The role may include responsibilities in key program areas such as safety, education, and specimen handling, and includes site-specific operational oversight across Niagara Health locations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program
Current registration and good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO),
with license to practice Biochemistry
Minimum five (5) years recent experience in Biochemistry, including five (5) years in a supervisory capacity
Bachelor of Science (BSc) or related degree required
ART certification in Biochemistry
Additional certification in Healthcare Management, Quality Management, or Leadership preferred
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development
Knowledge, Skills and Leadership Abilities
Advanced knowledge of Biochemistry laboratory operations, instrumentation, and specimen processing
Strong understanding of ACDx accreditation requirements, Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) principles and practices
Commitment to pursue or maintain qualification as an ACDx Accreditation Assessor
Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and hospital information systems
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical analysis, including benchmarking and monitoring quality indicators
Knowledge of risk management principles, policies, and procedures
Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, coaching, and team-building abilities
Ability to lead, influence, and support staff performance and development
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong critical thinking, decision-making, conflict resolution, and change management skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced workplace
Versatile, self-directed, and able to manage competing priorities
Ability to apply professional standards outlined by CMLTO
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse teams
Consistent and reliable attendance; ability to work across all Niagara Health sites
