About Our School & Community
Located in the beautiful Tsilhqot’in Territory of BC’s Cariboo Region, Tl’etinqox School is a vibrant K–12 school serving approximately 75 students. Our school is deeply rooted in the culture, language, and traditions of Tsilhqot’in. We are looking for a compassionate, relationship-focused School Counsellor who is eager to support our youth, collaborate with local Elders and community leaders, and make a meaningful difference both inside and outside the classroom.
Position Summary
As our School Counsellor, you will play a central role in fostering a safe, caring, and culturally responsive environment where every student can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. You will provide holistic, trauma-informed counselling, support crisis intervention, and collaborate closely with families, staff, and local community service teams.
Key Responsibilities
Provide social, emotional, and academic guidance to individual students and small groups.
Integrate restorative justice practices, local culture, values, and community-based healing practices into student support strategies in collaboration with Elders and Cultural Advisors.
Respond effectively to student crisis situations using trauma-informed approaches and wellness protocols.
Work alongside teachers, educational assistants, and community health services to create student support plans and IEPs/safety plans.
Coach and support staff in developing and applying skills in conflict resolution, social-emotional learning, and other areas where needed
Build strong, respectful relationships with families and participate in school and community events.
Qualifications & Requirements
Master’s Degree in School Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or a related field.
A valid BC Teaching Certificate.
A Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, histories, and ongoing impacts of systemic challenges. Prior experience working in an Indigenous or rural educational setting is a strong asset.
Proficiency in trauma-informed care, restorative justice, and strength-based practices.
Explicit Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
