Job Overview
The R&D; Researcher is a hands-on technical contributor responsible for developing technologies, materials, products, and industrial processes from theoretical concept through laboratory experimentation, pilot-scale validation, scale-up, and commercialization support.
The R&D; Researcher designs and performs experiments, operates and improves laboratory and pilot equipment, analyzes results, and works with multidisciplinary teams to convert scientific principles into practical, safe, scalable, and economically viable solutions. Success is measured through technical milestones, reproducible results, technology readiness advancement, intellectual property contributions, effective technology transfer, and commercial deployment support.
Your Responsibilities
Conduct literature reviews, theoretical studies, calculations, modelling, and technical assessments; translate the findings into research hypotheses, experimental plans, process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, and equipment requirements.
Design and execute laboratory experiments using sound scientific methodology, including design of experiments, controlled variables, sampling, material characterization, data analysis, uncertainty assessment, and traceable documentation.
Design, assemble, modify, commission, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory and pilot-scale equipment; perform hands-on monitoring, sampling, and maintenance coordination during test campaigns and demonstrations.
Develop and optimize materials, products, and processes; identify root causes and implement improvements to product quality, yield, reliability, energy efficiency, safety, and operability.
Advance technologies from proof of concept through pilot demonstration, engineering scale-up, field validation, and commercialization by generating design criteria, equipment specifications, operating envelopes, and techno-economic information.
Prepare technical reports, procedures, presentations, proposals, and patent-supporting documentation; collaborate with engineering, operations, business development, customers, research partners, and other stakeholders while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
Candidate Profile
Education & Qualifications
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering, materials science, materials physics, metallurgy, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
Strong knowledge of scientific methodology, applied research, experimental design, process development, data analysis, technology readiness advancement, scale-up, and commercialization pathways.
Demonstrated hands-on ability to plan and conduct experiments and to safely operate, modify, commission, and troubleshoot laboratory or pilot-scale equipment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect theoretical principles to equipment design, material behavior, operating conditions, industrial constraints, and techno-economic considerations.
Ability to prepare and interpret process documentation, technical drawings, test procedures, equipment specifications, and technical reports; experience with simulation, scientific computing, instrumentation, controls, or design software is an asset.
Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively in French and English, and travel or work flexible hours when required by testing and commissioning activities.
