As our current Coordinator of IT retires, LRSD is seeking an innovative, highly skilled, and visionary Coordinator of Information Technology to lead the division into its next chapter of digital transformation, security, and classroom innovation.
Position Summary The Coordinator of Information Technology provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all technology infrastructure, cybersecurity programs, and digital learning ecosystems across the division.
Reporting to Executive Leadership, this role demands a dynamic leader who bridges two critical domains: enterprise-grade cybersecurity and infrastructure resilience, and Educational Technology (EdTech) integration. Both a strategic planner and an engaged, hands-on problem-solver, the Coordinator will ensure that our networks remain secure and reliable while empowering educators to integrate contemporary digital tools purposefully into classroom instruction.
Key Responsibilities 1. Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Resilience (Primary Focus)
Enterprise Security Leadership:
Design, implement, and oversee robust cybersecurity frameworks, data protection protocols, and threat-mitigation strategies to safeguard division systems, staff, and student data.
Risk Management & Continuity:
Maintain and regularly audit comprehensive disaster recovery, backup, and incident-response procedures.
Network & Cloud Architecture:
Provide high-level architectural oversight for enterprise networks (WAN/LAN), cloud environments (Google Workspace / Microsoft 365 / Azure), identity management, firewalls, and server infrastructure.
Policy & Compliance:
Advise executive leadership and the Board of Trustees on IT policy updates, ensuring strict compliance with provincial data privacy regulations and responsible-use standards.
2. Educational Technology & Pedagogical Integration
Student-Centered Innovation:
Collaborate with school administrators, curriculum leaders, and teachers to ensure technology investments directly support student learning, instructional excellence, and innovative classroom practices.
Purposeful Integration:
Establish a shared vision for EdTech that moves beyond hardware deployment to focus on the meaningful, curriculum-aligned integration of digital tools.
Capacity Building:
Design and facilitate professional learning opportunities that empower teaching staff to build confidence and competence in modern educational technologies.
3. Strategic Leadership & Operations
Division Technology Plan:
Partner with the Superintendent and executive leadership to develop, continually update, and execute the LRSD Long-Range Technology Plan aligned with divisional educational goals.
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Supervise, mentor, and foster a team-oriented, high-performing IT department that provides dependable Tier 1–3 support to all schools and administrative offices.
Budget & Procurement:
Manage the division's technology budget, oversee competitive tenders and RFP processes for major hardware/software expenditures, and negotiate vendor contracts (e.g., SIS, internet service providers, hardware licensing).
Stakeholder & Provincial Liaison:
Represent LRSD with provincial technology partners, Alberta Education, SuperNet, and regional educational consortia.
Qualifications & Ideal Attributes Education & Experience
Degree Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field from an accredited university. (A Master's Degree in IT,
Cybersecurity, or Educational Leadership is a strong asset).

Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive IT leadership and systems administration experience, preferably within a K–12 public education or multi-site public sector environment.
Certifications:
Recognized industry certifications in cybersecurity or systems architecture (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, Microsoft/Google Enterprise Admin) are highly preferred.
Teaching / Administrative Background:
Eligibility for an Alberta Teaching Certificate or prior experience as an educational leader/system administrator is an exceptional asset, though not strictly required for candidates with strong EdTech integration backgrounds.
