At Spaceium, we are building spacecraft systems designed to push the boundaries of what's possible in orbit. As a Manufacturing Technician, you will make the parts and assemblies our spacecraft are built from. You'll run CNC machines, weld and fabricate, and support hands-on build and assembly - turning engineering drawings into flight and test hardware in a quick-moving shop.
Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC machining equipment (mills and/or lathes) to produce precision parts
Program or edit CNC toolpaths (G-code / CAM) and select tooling, speeds, and feeds
Weld and fabricate - TIG/MIG welding, cutting, bending, and sheet-metal/structural fabrication
Build wire harnesses and cable assemblies - crimping, connectorization, potting, and labeling
Perform precision soldering (through-hole, surface-mount, connectors, and cabling) to space workmanship standards
Read and work from engineering drawings, GD&T;, wiring diagrams, and specifications
Operate manual machine tools (mill, lathe, drill press) and general shop equipment
Perform in-process and final inspection using calipers, micrometers, and gauges
Support mechanical assembly, integration, and test hardware builds
Maintain machines and tools, keep the shop safe, clean, and organized (5S)
Work closely with mechanical engineers to improve manufacturability and turnaround
Basic Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; trade certificate or college diploma in machining, welding, manufacturing, or a related field is an asset
Hands-on experience with CNC machining and/or welding and fabrication
Experience with soldering and/or wire harness and cable assembly
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T;, and wiring diagrams
Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
Strong attention to detail, safety-focused, and reliable
What We’re Looking For We’re building technology that hasn’t been done before. Experience is helpful, but drive, craftsmanship, and the ability to learn quickly matter more. If you take pride in making things well, enjoy hands-on work, and want to help build spacecraft, we encourage you to apply — whether you’re early in your career or a seasoned machinist.
Preferred Skills Resourceful problem solver with a scrappy, get-it-done approach under tight timelines.
CNC programming experience (Fusion 360, Mastercam, or similar CAM software)
Certified or highly proficient in TIG welding, especially aluminum and stainless
NASA-STD-8739.3 (or IPC-J-STD-001 Space Addendum) soldering certification, or high-reliability space soldering experience
Wire harness and cable assembly experience to NASA-STD-8739.4 (crimping, interconnecting cables, harnesses, and wiring) or similar space workmanship standards
Experience machining aerospace or precision materials (aluminum, titanium, stainless)
Familiarity with fixtures, jigs, and tooling design
Experience in a machine shop, fabrication shop, or hardware startup environment
Comfortable working across multiple skills and picking up recent ones as the shop grows
Additional Requirements Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones.
This role requires a physical presence at the Ottawa facility.
Ability to safely lift and handle materials and stand for extended periods.
Compensation Salary: $55,000 - $70,000 CAD per year
Equity: 0.05% - 0.4%
If you’re excited about building the hardware behind the future of space systems, we’d love to hear from you.
Please submit any projects that you have worked on.
