Our services include Facility Condition Assessments (FCA), Cost Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Environmental Site Assessments, and Project Monitoring.
Pryco conducts facility assessments for municipal, institutional, healthcare, commercial, and government clients. Our assessment work supports lifecycle planning, capital budgeting, maintenance planning, and informed asset-management decisions
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist/CET with strong experience in commercial and institutional building to join our growing team. 3+ years of relevant building-systems, facility assessment, consulting, commissioning, construction, or facility-operations experience are preferred. Exceptional recent graduates with strong HVAC/building-systems knowledge may also be considered.
The successful candidate will support facility condition assessments and engineering consulting projects, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, building automation, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems. The position includes regular field inspections and requires the ability to evaluate existing equipment, identify deficiencies, estimate remaining service life, and contribute to capital renewal recommendations.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct and support Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs) of commercial, institutional, municipal, healthcare, and other public-sector buildings
Inspect and document HVAC, plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, controls/BAS, fire protection, and associated mechanical equipment
Assess equipment condition, age, observed deficiencies, remaining service life, and anticipated renewal requirements




Develop mechanical equipment inventories and verify equipment information, including manufacturer, model, capacity, age, and condition where available
Participate in site inspections and digital field-data collection
Review drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, O&M; manuals, previous assessment reports, and as-built documentation
Identify maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and replacement requirements
Assist with technical reports, maintenance recommendations, and capital planning
Support replacement cost estimates and life-cycle costing
Assist in developing short-, medium-, and long-term capital renewal forecasts
Apply industry-standard facility assessment frameworks and building-system classifications
Collaborate with engineers, architects, engineering technologists, facility operators, and project managers
Coordinate with facility representatives during site assessments to understand equipment history, known deficiencies, and operational concerns
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and client requirements
Escalate complex or potentially significant mechanical deficiencies to the Mechanical Engineer/Technical Lead for review
Participate in QA/QC reviews to support consistent assessment findings across multi-building portfolios
Travel to project sites throughout Alberta and occasionally other provinces as required
Qualifications:



Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent recognized technical education; a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering will also be considered
CET designation or eligibility is an asset
3+ years of relevant experience in building mechanical systems, facility assessments, consulting engineering, commissioning, construction, maintenance, or facility operations is preferred
Direct Facility Condition Assessment experience is a strong asset
Commercial/institutional building experience is strongly preferred.
Practical knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems, including AHUs, RTUs, boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, pumps, hydronic systems, exhaust systems, and controls/BAS
Knowledge of plumbing systems including domestic water, drainage, fixtures, pumps, and water-heating equipment
Familiarity with fire protection systems is an asset
Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, specifications, and building documentation
Understanding of equipment service life, preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement planning is an asset
Experience with institutional or healthcare mechanical systems is considered a strong asset
Solid technical writing, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently in the field while coordinating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
AutoCAD or Revit experience is an asset
Experience with facility/asset-management databases, field-data collection software, or mobile inspection applications is an asset
Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
Ability and willingness to travel, including occasional overnight travel
Ability to safely access mechanical rooms, rooftops, service areas, and other building spaces encountered during facility assessments
Compensation: $60,000 – $80,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience
