Salary: $1,918.46 to $2,427.46 bi-weekly ($50,071.81 - $63,356.71/year)

We have an exciting opportunity for a people-oriented, detail-driven, and public-service-minded qualified to join the Appeals Secretariat, an organization dedicated to supporting fair, impartial, and transparent appeal processes for Albertans. The Appeals Secretariat plays a vital role in administering appeals for more than 4,000 Albertans each year across programs and services delivered by the ministries of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS), Children and Family Services (CFS), Education and Childcare (EC), Primary and Preventative Health Services (PPHS), and Mental Health and Addiction (MHA).

The Secretariat supports independent appeal panels by coordinating hearings, managing the appeal process, and providing administrative support to panel members, appellants, and program areas. Through the administration of appeals and the support provided to all parties involved, the Secretariat helps ensure Alberta's appeal system remains accessible, transparent, and responsive.

Role Responsibilities Reporting to the Appeals Coordinator, you will work independently as an

Appeals Assistant , providing administrative support and guidance throughout the appeal process.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Serving as an important point of contact for Albertans navigating the appeal process, responding to inquiries and assisting with appeal documentation while maintaining neutrality and impartiality. Reviewing appeal submissions, coordinate hearing logistics,



prepare and distribute appeal packages Maintaining appeal records You will also identify and identify sensitive or complex issues, support regional meetings and training activities for panel members. Contributing to the efficient operation of the Appeals Secretariat through general office administration and team collaboration General mail and front desk and reception duties

Position Specific Competencies include:

You must use your problem solving to understand questions asked by appeal parties and provide appropriate information. You must also understand when issues need to be escalated to the Appeals Officer or Appeals Coordinator

You must maintain the impartiality and neutrality of the Appeals Secretariat when communication with appeal parties and members of the appeal panels

Drive for Results

You must ensure that all appeal tasks are complete in an accurate and timely manner and incorporate feedback provided by your supervisor to improve performance

Qualifications Administrative Support 4 - High School diploma plus a minimum of two years of related administrative experience.

Equivalencies will be considered based on 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.

The position requires knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

Administrative practices, procedures and standards Proven excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal diplomatically and professionally with a variety of stakeholders at different levels of understanding Ability to work with information technology, including various applications and systems (e.g., SharePoint, Excel, Outlook)



Ability to organize and prioritize short-term work Ability to respond to changing priorities and meeting changing timelines Ability to function independently without on-site supervision as well as part of a team Ability to creatively problem-solve urgent emerging issues Ability to exercise judgment in dealing with sensitive and confidential situations/information Time management and organizational skills

The ideal candidate will bring experience working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment where they have:

Supported case management, appeals, hearings, adjudication, compliance, or other procedural processes. Reviewed documentation for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to established requirements. Communicated effectively and empathetically with individuals navigating complex situations. Managed challenging interactions using sound judgment and de-escalation techniques. Adapted quickly to changing priorities while maintaining service standards and timelines. Worked independently with minimal supervision, while recognizing when issues required escalation. Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail when handling confidential information and maintaining records.

Notes This is a permanent full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday
