Are you passionate about community recreation and physical activity? Join the Sport and Recreation Branch within the Community Services Department as the Arena and School Program Coordinator! This key role is responsible for the full lifecycle of physical activity-based recreation programs delivered in recreation facilities, with a specific focus on school and arena programming. As a vital member of the Physical Activity Experiences Unit, you will be overseeing, planning, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating programs that bring active fun to a diverse group of participants.
The successful candidate will function as a vital member of the Physical Activity Experiences Team, planning, coordinating, supervising and evaluating recreation and leisure centre program delivery including skating, shinny and school program opportunities.
What you will do?
Plan, coordinate, and deliver physical activity programs specifically setting offerings for schools and in arenas
Recruit, hire, train, lead, evaluate and supervise program staff and volunteers
Assess all logistical needs, book facilities, organize supplies and registration for assigned programs
Prepare and coordinate promotional materials, including brochures, and social media posts
Ensure program and participant safety procedures are being followed
Collaborate with partner groups, organizations, agencies and individuals on specific programs
Providing excellent internal and external customer service including parents, yielding 311 phone calls, etc.
Develop programs and program resources within established registration, revenue, and expenditure guidelines
Coordinate program implementation; determine facility space, equipment, and ensure all policies and procedures are followed
Monitor program budget and cash handling procedures
Provide status reports to the supervisor on all activities
Other related duties as required
Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Recreation, Education, or a related discipline
Minimum 1-year full-time experience in program delivery; experience must focus on children and youth recreation and sport programs
Assets
Prior experience working within municipal government or large public-sector recreation operations
Experience using facility management booking software (such as RAMS/Intelli)
Skills required for success
Supervisory experience including coaching and mentoring staff
Experience in budget monitoring and reporting
Current knowledge of successful processes for developing, delivering, and evaluating programs
A team-focused individual with outstanding skills in the areas of communication (verbal, written and presentation/facilitation)
Excellent problem-solving, organization, time management, and conflict resolution skills
Ability to provide quality customer service; exemplary interpersonal skills needed
Skills in effective and current leadership
Proficiency with computers and programs such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and intelli (RAMS)

Conditions of employment
Current Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certifications are required prior to employment
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Note: Due to the nature of this work, this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
Primary work takes place in indoor recreation and arena spaces, with occasional exposure to dusty, humid, or noisy environments typical of active sports facilities
Physical tasks include standing, walking, sitting, and occasional light lifting or moving of equipment (up to 20 lbs)
