The Site
This is a regulated oilfield waste facility in the Fort McMurray region, taking drilling waste, contaminated soil, tank bottoms, sludges, and produced water from upstream and oil sands operations. It is not garbage. No household trash, no curbside collection, no residential traffic. Trucks and vac units come through the gate all day, and everything that arrives or leaves is weighed, manifested, tracked, and logged against the site's operating approval and AER Directive 058.
What You'll Do
Run the facility to its Standard Operating Procedures,
and update those procedures as site conditions change
Receive and direct incoming loads, coordinate truck flow at the gate, and oversee safe unloading
Track and log every incoming and outgoing fluid and waste stream, file tickets, and balance the plant
Issue Secure Work Permits and oversee third party contractor compliance on site
Inspect and maintain facility equipment, pumps, and tanks, and schedule contractors for repairs outside your scope
Run hazard assessments, report incidents, and hold the site to its environmental approval conditions
Support haulers and customers with logistics, and keep the work area clean and safe
What You Bring
Facility, plant, or field operations experience in oil and gas, industrial waste, or water treatment
Mechanical background, confident inspecting, troubleshooting, and maintaining pumps, tanks, and facility equipment
Comfortable with the paperwork: manifests, tickets, logs, permits, and plant balancing in Word, Excel, and email
Valid Class 5 licence and a strong safety and compliance record
Able to work a 14 and 14 including weekends and holidays, and be available for on-call
Living in Fort McMurray with reliable transportation to site
Nice to Have
Water experience of any kind is a strong asset: produced water handling, water treatment, water transfer, disposal wells, or water plant operation
Landfill, waste management, or well operations background, and familiarity with AER Directive 058
CSTS-2020 and Ground Disturbance Level 2
Loader or dozer seat time as a backup skill, though this is not an equipment operator role
Why Operators Take This Job
You run the facility. This is not a seat on a crew where someone else makes the calls, it is the operator's site, and the person who holds it is trusted to keep it safe and compliant. The rotation is a real 14 and 14 at home in Fort McMurray, so no camp, no flights, and no room to pay for on your days off.
What We Offer
$35.00 to $45.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Overtime available based on operational requirements
Life insurance plus AD&D; with critical illness and cancer coverage
Extended health: drugs, hospital, vision, and paramedical including mental health
Dental coverage, including orthodontic coverage for children
