Join the Step Up Step Down Program as an Educational Assistant, enhancing educational outcomes and mental health support for youth. The role is part time, 30 hours weekly, starting August 24, 2026.
At the Sheldon Kennedy Centre of Excellence, the Educational Assistant works directly with youth aged 13-17 who cannot attend traditional schools due to mental health issues. This role involves providing continuity in academic learning while supporting mental health treatment and development. Ideal candidates will possess strong problem-solving skills and be adaptable to handle diverse student needs effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide tailored educational assistance for youth
• Collaborate with community partners and school jurisdictions
• Support students in achieving academic and personal goals
• Attend to individual behavioral needs, using effective strategies
• Help implement mental health programming and treatment plans
Requirements:
• Certificate in Educational Assistance, Rehabilitation, or Social Work
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Flexibility in adjusting to students’ diverse challenges
• Training in behavior strategies is preferred
• A current vulnerable sector criminal record check is mandatory
