Department: Emergency
The Emergency Department is open 24 hrs/day 7 days per week. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, social services, pastoral care, crisis intervention, orthopedic technicians and other members of our health care team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate is required (recent within the last twelve months)
Certified in Medication Administration withrelated experiencerequired
Current IV Therapy certification an asset
Capillary Blood Glucose certification required
Emergency experience required
Experience working on a Medical or Surgical Unit required
Computer application experience required
Experience in Mental Health Nursing preferred
Skills/Abilities
Must be able to function both independently and as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team in caring for medical/surgical patients required
Ability to effectively provide health teaching to individuals and groups required
Must be involved in continuing education on an annual basis and demonstrate commitment to quality improvement required
Ability to meet physical demands required to provide nursing care to medical/surgical patients required
Good attendance and work record required
Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
