Aon is in the business of better decisions
At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.
an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.
What the day will look like
The vision for this role is to create a trusted, client-facing technical resource who can bridge disciplines and support clients across a broad spectrum of needs. No single individual is expected to be the deepest expert in every area. The successful candidate will have broad knowledge of the PathWise ecosystem. They will understand client needs and provide meaningful support directly. They will also quickly identify and contact the right authority when deeper expertise is needed.
This role will improve responsiveness, strengthen technical ownership and ensure clients receive coordinated support without having to navigate multiple internal teams themselves. You will remain accountable for driving the issue or opportunity to the right outcome, even when specialist support is required.
- Client technical leadership: Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for clients, understand the full context of their needs, provide practical guidance, and coordinate support across modelling, product, engineering, infrastructure and implementation teams.
- Modelling and solution support: Help clients build, implement, validate, fix and optimise actuarial and quantitative models in PathWise. Translate business and modelling requirements into practical solution approaches.
- Product domain expertise: Develop broad knowledge of PathWise capabilities, workflows, configuration and use cases. Answer product questions, recommend effective approaches, and identify when a specialist should be engaged.
- Platform and infrastructure guidance: Support discussions involving deployment architecture, cloud and on-premises environments, GPUs, high-performance computing, performance, scalability, security, configuration and operational readiness. Partner with infrastructure and engineering specialists where deeper analysis is needed.
- Solution building and proofs of concept: Work closely with clients to understand their business challenges and build tailored PathWise solutions and proof-of-concept models that demonstrate business value and platform capabilities.
- Technical pre-sales support: Partner with sales and account teams to deliver product demonstrations, technical presentations and solution workshops. Confidently respond to detailed questions from actuaries,
quantitative analysts, technology leaders and other collaborators.
- Performance optimisation: Analyse client implementations and guide the refactoring and optimisation of models and workflows to take advantage of PathWise performance, including GPU-enabled processing.
- Advanced technical support: Act as a main point of coordination for complex client issues involving financial or actuarial models, product behaviour, system performance, configuration or environment dependencies. Assess what can be resolved directly and involve the right SME promptly when needed.
- Client onboarding and enablement: Lead technical onboarding, training and knowledge transfer so that client teams can adopt, operate and extend PathWise successfully.
- Multi-functional orchestration: Bring together the appropriate specialists, establish clear ownership, communicate progress and maintain continuity from initial request through resolution. Reduce hand-offs and prevent clients from having to coordinate across multiple teams.
- Customer advocacy: Represent the client perspective internally. Gather structured feedback and work with product management, development and service teams to influence priorities and improve the end-to-end client experience.
How this opportunity is different
This is a broad technical leadership role at the intersection of actuarial modelling, quantitative finance, product expertise, client delivery and technology. You will not be limited to a single subject area. Instead, you will provide the connective tissue across the PathWise ecosystem, helping clients move efficiently from question to answer and from challenge to outcome. You will work with sophisticated GPU-powered technology and collaborate with experts across actuarial, finance, product, engineering and infrastructure teams.
What success looks like
- Trusted client partnership: Clients see you as a credible first call for technical inquiries and value your ability to understand the wider scope of their needs.
- Faster, coordinated support: Client requests reach the right expertise quickly, with explicit ownership and fewer avoidable hand-offs.
- Practical outcomes: Clients receive solutions and guidance that connect modelling objectives, product capabilities and technical environment considerations.
- Stronger internal alignment: Product, engineering, infrastructure, implementation and commercial teams have a consistent view of client needs, priorities and forthcoming actions.
- Continuous improvement: Recurring client themes are translated into actionable product, documentation, training and service improvements.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
- Quantitative foundation: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an analytical field such as actuarial science, engineering, mathematical finance, mathematics, physics, statistics or computer science.
- Relevant experience: More than 8 years of experience in quantitative analysis, actuarial modelling, data science, financial modelling, technical consulting,
solutions engineering or a related client-facing technical role.
- Breadth across disciplines: Demonstrated ability to work across modelling, software products, platform architecture and infrastructure topics, with the judgement to distinguish between issues that can be addressed directly and those requiring specialist expertise.
- Client-facing technical consulting: Experience discovering client needs, framing ambiguous problems, recommending practical solutions, and communicating technical trade-offs, risks and next steps to business and technical audiences.
- Modelling and quantitative analysis: Solid understanding of statistical methods, quantitative analysis and Monte Carlo simulation, together with experience applying these techniques to real business problems.
- Programming proficiency: Strong programming skills in Python. Experience with C# or C++ is an asset.
- Fix and problem ownership: Strong diagnostic skills and a structured approach to resolving complex issues across models, software configuration, performance and technical environments. Ability to maintain end-to-end ownership while coordinating other experts.
- Communication and influence: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including capacity to explain sophisticated topics in quantitative finance, actuarial modelling, software and parallel computing to varied audiences.
- Collaboration: Ability to build trusted relationships with clients and work effectively across sales, product management, engineering, infrastructure, implementation and support teams.
- Learning agility: Curiosity and the ability to rapidly build working knowledge in unfamiliar areas, ask effective questions and navigate a broad technical ecosystem.
Nice to have
- Advanced quantitative education: Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field.
- Insurance and capital markets experience: Five or more years working in insurance, reinsurance or capital markets, with exposure to complex actuarial or financial models.
- Actuarial domain knowledge: Strong understanding of the mathematical and theoretical principles underlying actuarial science and common insurance modelling use cases.
- Quantitative finance knowledge: Sound understanding of stochastic processes, derivative pricing and other mathematical concepts underpinning quantitative finance.
- Platform and infrastructure knowledge: Knowledge of cloud platforms, deployment architectures, networking, security, observability, environment configuration, containers, virtual machines and operational support concepts.
- High-performance and parallel computing: Understanding of HPC architecture, GPGPU concepts and parallel processing frameworks such as CUDA, OpenCL or OpenMP.
- Industry credentials: Progress towards or completion of an actuarial designation such as ASA or FSA, or a financial designation such as CFA or FRM, or comparable experience.
- Actuarial modelling platforms: Direct experience with PathWise or other actuarial modelling software such as AXIS, Prophet or RiskAgility.
- Pre-sales and enablement: Experience delivering demonstrations, workshops, proofs of concept, client training or technical enablement.
