RECREATION LEADER 3 (CHILDREN'S SUPPORT SERVICES) POSITION OVERVIEWThe City of Maple Ridge is seeking support workers with experience assisting children with support needs aged 3 to 12 years within group programs. Candidates must be confident in adapting environments and activities to ensure children with support needs can participate alongside their peers in recreation programs.

This Recreation

Leader 3 – Children’s (Support Services) position involves following individual support plans and personal care plans. Training and direction regarding these processes will be communicated by parents, supervisors, and community partners. Participation and support in recreation activities, both indoors and outdoors, is required.

Providing staff support to children is integral to ensuring the inclusion, safety, and well-being of children with individual support needs. You will work within a team of recreation leaders. Strong communication skills within a team, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to unplanned situations are required to create a safe and supportive environment for participants.

The ideal candidate will exercise judgment within established policies and procedures, follow verbal and written directions from supervisors, respond quickly to situations, and problem-solve options utilizing resources and their team to assist with de-escalating conflicts and situations. Candidates with experience maintaining documentation such as daily logs, incident forms and connecting with parents/guardians will be needed.In This Role You Will:

- Provides one-on-one support for children, youth and adults with a variety of abilities to participate in recreation programs and activities; and assists in the overall leadership of the program.




- Prepares support tools and supplies and other resources necessary for their supported participant for the day-to-day program.
- Completes documentation and report writing as it relates to supported program participants; communicates frequently with program participant caregivers, relevant agencies and superiors.
- Monitors facility and equipment for safety, security and maintenance requirements; enforces rules and regulations, and responds to incidents as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for preschool and school aged children, youth and adults. Working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work.

Working knowledge of modern office methods and procedures.

Ability to participate in planning and implementing programs and activities and to provide leadership and instruction.

Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with program participants, parents and external agencies.

Ability to assist in leadership of volunteers and junior level staff.

Skill in the operation of equipment used in the workEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 and supplemented by courses related to the work, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

Valid Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR/AED, Level C. *A current,



valid Standard First Aid and CPR–C (Level C) certificate is required and must be attached; applications without valid certification will not be considered.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

20 hours of Responsible Adult Training for working with children

Food Safe Certificate

High Five Training – Principals of Healthy Child Development

MANDT Training or NVCI TrainingHOURS OF WORK

This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
