POSITION PURPOSE The Information Technology Specialist is responsible for installing, maintaining, administering and supporting all facets of information technology used within the School Board. The
Information Technology Specialist will identify and rectify problems with both hardware and software technology, analyze current and future needs and make recommendations for appropriate hardware and software solutions. This includes supporting the Board’s networking infrastructure, servers, switches and routers, wireless technology, client endpoints, and cloud-
based platforms.
The incumbent supports technology service requests and provides training support for all end-users (staff and students). Additionally, the position ensures compliance with all software licencing agreements and performs other related duties as required by the Manager of Information Technology Services.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- 3-yr College diploma in Computer Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
- 1-3 years experience in the above responsibilities.
- Demonstrate an awareness and willingness to respond to internal customers in order to
respond to and meet their needs, requirements and expectations.
- Must be able to rapidly acquire knowledge on non-standard applications and apply
effective technical skills across known and new problems as they arise.
- Robust analytical and effective problem-solving skills.
- Skilled at communicating and sharing technical information to non-technical users in a
clear, concise and easy to understand manner.
- Ability to work as an individual contributor as well as part of a team and with other
relevant stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to work well under pressure, utilizing excellent organizational skills and
demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands. Information Technology Specialist of 3
- Strong skill set in Microsoft M365 and Google for Education ecosystems, along with
experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including PowerBI, along with Python and PowerShell.
- Experience and knowledge working with and building AI Agents.
- Exemplary attention to detail with excellent planning, and time management skills.
- A valid driver’s license (level “G” minimum)
RESPONSIBILITIES CUSTOMER SERVICE / DIRECT SUPPORT TO END USERS
- Addresses the needs of end users, either over the phone or via submitted service
requests.
- Assesses and troubleshoots technical issues and works toward achieving an appropriate
resolution.
- Addresses issues that may include but are not limited to network connectivity, wireless
connections, fire and print services, cloud platform, classroom technology hardware/software and user authorization rights.
UPDATE AND MAINTAIN INFRASTRUCTURE
- Implements and maintains critical infrastructure requirements at key times during the
year (e.g. March Break; Summer Break).
- Completes maintenance tasks include but are not limited to upgrading, installing, and
configuring routers and switches, printer replacements, desktops, and devices, etc. MAINTENANCE OF CLOUD SERVICE PLATFORMS
- Ensures cloud-based platforms are aligned with best practices.
- Implements new configuration settings as the platforms implement new feature sets
which support the requirements of the Education sector and its end users.
OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES AND DOCUMENTATION
- Ensures IT operational procedures and other related documentation is reviewed and
kept updated.
- Documentation requirements include but are not limited to standard operating
