POSITION PURPOSE The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for supporting and enhancing the Rainy
River District School Board's communications, public relations, community engagement, and information management functions. The position serves as a key communications resource for the Board by developing and implementing communication strategies that promote Board programs, initiatives, achievements, and strategic priorities.
The Community Outreach Coordinator creates engaging print and digital communications,
manages social media platforms, develops publications and promotional materials, supports community outreach initiatives, and provides administrative support for Board and senior leadership activities. The position also supports privacy, records management, and information governance practices to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, Board policies, and best practices.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism,
Business Administration, Information Management, or a related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum three years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing,
community engagement, information management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and digital communications.
- Experience preparing publications, reports, newsletters, promotional materials, and
corporate communications.
- Experience coordinating projects and supporting meetings, committees, or stakeholder

- Experience in education, public sector, municipal, or non-profit environments is an
asset.
- Experience supporting privacy, records management, or information governance
initiatives is considered an asset.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong graphic design and content development capabilities.
- Proficiency with social media platforms, analytics, website content management
systems, and digital communication tools.
- Strong editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible, and engaging
communication products.
- Excellent organizational, planning, project management, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic workplace.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications and Public Relations
- Develop, implement, and maintain communication strategies that enhance the profile and reputation of the Board.
- Create and distribute communications materials including news releases, newsletters, website
content, feature stories, advertisements, and promotional materials.
- Develop content that highlights student achievement, staff accomplishments, Board initiatives,
and community partnerships.
- Serve as a communications liaison with schools, families, staff, community partners, and media
representatives.
- Support media relations activities and assist with responses to media inquiries as directed.
- Ensure all communications are accurate, professional, accessible, and aligned with Board
branding standards.
- Support emergency and crisis communication activities as required.
Social Media and Digital Communications
- Manage and maintain Board social media platforms.
- Create, schedule, monitor, and evaluate social media content and campaigns.
- Develop engaging content using photography, video, graphics, and written storytelling.

- Monitor social media trends and recommend strategies to improve audience engagement and
community awareness.
- Track, analyze, and report on communication and social media performance metrics.
Website and Digital Platform Management
- Develop, update, and maintain website and portal content.
- Ensure website content remains timely, accessible, accurate, and aligned with Board priorities.
- Provide training and support for website users.
- Monitor compliance with accessibility standards and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate digital content improvements and user experience enhancements.
Graphic Design and Content Development
- Design and produce professional print and digital communication materials.
- Create brochures, reports, posters, newsletters, infographics, presentations, advertisements,
and other promotional resources.
- Maintain consistency in Board branding,
visual identity, and messaging.
- Coordinate photography, videography, and visual content development for Board publications
and platforms.
Publications and Corporate Reporting
- Coordinate the development, design, and publication of the Director of Education's Annual
Report.
- Assist in the preparation of strategic plans, annual operational plans, departmental publications,
reports, and corporate communications.
- Support the creation of presentations and communication materials for internal and external
stakeholders.
- Ensure all publications meet quality, accessibility, and branding standards.
Community Engagement and Outreach
- Foster positive relationships with schools, families, Indigenous partners, community
organizations, municipalities, businesses, and other stakeholders.
- Support community consultations, engagement activities, and special events.
- Represent the Board at community events and functions as required.
- Promote Board initiatives through effective outreach and communication strategies.
- Gather and analyze stakeholder feedback to support continuous improvement.
Administrative and Project Support
- Prepare meeting agendas, briefing materials, minutes, and related documentation.
- Provide administrative support for Board and senior administration meetings, committees, and
engagement activities.
- Coordinate communication projects and special initiatives, including strategic planning, student
census activities, registration campaigns, and other Board priorities.
- Maintain records and documentation related to communications and outreach activities.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for communication products and services.
Privacy and Information Management
- Support the implementation and promotion of Board privacy, records management, and

- Assist with the development, maintenance, and communication of privacy and information
management procedures and guidelines.
- Coordinate records retention and disposition activities in accordance with Board policies and
legislative requirements.
- Support privacy awareness and staff training initiatives.
- Assist in responding to information requests and privacy-related inquiries.
- Maintain secure and confidential records and documentation related to Board operations.
- Support audits, reviews, and reporting related to privacy, records management, and information
governance.
- Work collaboratively with departments to improve information management practices and
reduce information-related risk.
