Hours of Work: Approximately 5 to 25 hours per week.
Hours are not guaranteed, based on lunch program offered.
Anticipated Location: Various Schools
Rate of Pay: $24.54 per hour

POSITION INFORMATION

POSITION SUMMARY The School Lunch Worker plans, prepares and serves nutritious lunches to students in a safe, efficient and hygienic manner. This role supports student well-being by ensuring compliance with nutrition guidelines, food safety standards and relevant RRDSB policies.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Completion of a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent education as approved by Employer.
- Valid Safe Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Knowledge of nutrition principles and food safety standards.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Experience operating food service equipment (e.g., ovens, stoves, dishwashers and small
motorized appliances) and related utensils.
- Solid organization, attention to detail, time management and multi-tasking skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, prepare and serve lunch meals in accordance with the Ministry of Children,
Community and Social Services’ Student Nutrition guidelines, all applicable health and food service regulations, and any additional relevant standards and regulations.
- Develop menus that consider food allergies, food sensitivities, dietary requirements and
culturally appropriate.
- Estimate food requirements, manage costs and order supplies as needed.
- Prepare, portion, store and serve food following proper sanitation and safety procedures.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils; ensuring all equipment, utensils
and surfaces are cleaned and sanitized. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.
- Inform the school Principal or alternative Designate when food service supplies (e.g.,
bowls, thermal wrapping, food trays, etc.) need replenishing.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to ensure an efficient lunch meal program.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in a school environment; school kitchen environment.
- Exposure to heat, food odors and cleaning chemicals.
- Potential risk of injury (cuts, burns and slips).
- Occasional exposure to stressful conditions; high-pressure periods during meal service.
- Limited travel may be required.
