Hours of work: 16.25 hours per week
Rate of pay: $28.85 to $29.44/hour

POSITION: Communication Assistant
EMPLOYEE GROUP: ESP (Educational Support Personnel)
Qualifications Necessary:
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- Early Childhood Education program (ECE) preferred
- Recognized Communicative Disorders Assistant Diploma (preferred)
- Strong proficiency in both spoken and written English is required
- Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Word, Google Drive, Proloquo2go,
SeeSaw, TalkTrac and iPad operations
- Demonstrated ability to organize workload effectively and collaborate with others
- Experience working with children experiencing communication difficulties is an asset
- Ability to work with students with complex communication needs or challenging behaviors
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Principal, the Communication Assistant is responsible for assisting with the delivery of speech and language programming that are directed by the Speech and
Language Pathologist, to students with identified communication needs. The Communication
Assistant works under the Speech and Language Pathologist’s license, so ongoing collaboration and mentoring is an essential component of the position. The role of the Communication
Assistant will be influenced by the specific needs of the students. Training required to perform the duties of the position will be provided by the immediate supervisor(s), the Principal and
Speech and Language Pathologist.
Responsible To:
The Communication Assistant is responsible to the Principal and Speech Language Pathologist.
Specific Duties:
1. Assist in the delivery of therapy-based goals determined by the Speech
Language Pathologist.
1. Develop materials and activities tailored to target specific speech and language goals.
2. Interact with students, caregivers, and educators to provide strategies for practice at home
or school. Post activities on SeeSaw to support home/school collaboration.
1. Program and provide instruction on communication devices as part of therapy sessions.
2. Write reports each term to track client progress.
3. Maintain online written progress notes and other daily documentation in TalkTrac, as
needed.
1. Participate in ongoing supervision provided by the Speech Language Pathologist.
2. Conduct speech language screenings following specific protocols approved by
the supervising Speech and Language Pathology.
1. Implement a range of speech/language activities, instructing and guiding students to
support them achieve their identified goals. under the supervision of the Speech
Language Pathologist
1. Under the supervision of the Speech and Language Pathologist, facilitate and participate
in yearly planned activities such as ongoing screening, report writing, and adjustment of interventions based on the changing needs of the students.
1. Ability to work with clients with complex communication needs or challenging behaviors.
2. To maintain strict confidentiality of students and students’ records.

Qualifications Necessary:

Position Summary:
The Library Assistant is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the school library in order to promote the Rainy River District School Board school libraries as positive, welcoming environments where students and their educational needs are the focus of active learning.
Responsible To:
The Library Assistant is responsible to the Principal of the school.
Specific Duties:
1. Promote and foster the enjoyment of reading for pleasure and literacy through day-to-
day interactions with staff and students by: a. Reading to or with students;
b. Working with students in small groups or individually to assist in the development of literacy skills.
1. Promote and encourage the best learning environment for our students by:
a. Setting up displays; b. Creating bulletin boards;
c. Coordinating the set-up of special events and book fairs in the library;
d. Promoting the library services and appropriate resources (Rainy River District
Library Cooperative, JSTOR, etc.) to all staff and students.
1. Circulation desk duties:
a. Checking in and checking out books and other library materials; b. Renewing and reserving requested library materials;
c. Shelving books and other library materials;
d. Preparing overdue notices for homeroom teachers, students and staff.
1. Process new books and library materials:
a. Entry of books/materials into Acquisitions and Library File of L4U; b. Stamp with School name;
c. Barcode and label books/materials.
1. Assist students and staff in locating and using materials in the library by answering
questions and/or gathering materials.
1. Maintain the library collection, which includes:
a. Shelving books; b. Reading shelves;
c. Mending and repairing books or other library materials;
d. Ensuring library supplies (labels, tape, etc.) are available;
e. Weeding and withdrawing damaged or out-of-date materials:
i. Disposal of withdrawn materials, as per RRDSB policy and procedure f. Maintaining a tidy and user-friendly library space that is welcoming and a positive learning environment.
1. Maintain the school L4U system and support its use by students and staff:
a. Updates L4U system as needed and demonstrates L4U OPAC to staff and students.
1. Assist the RRDSB I.T. Department with deployment (to students and staff),
maintenance and retrieval of RRDSB technological devices (Chromebooks, etc.).
1. Supervise scheduling of the library, classroom visits and book exchanges:
a. Assist with the supervision of students in the library.
1. Order, with the Principal’s permission, new library materials and subscriptions, etc.
2. Year-end inventory (if directed by the Principal).
