At ALCO, you'll have the opportunity to build your skills through hands-on experience in structural welding, build-up welding, pipe welding, carbon arc gouging, and heat work while working alongside an experienced team.
What We're Looking For
- 2nd or 3rd Year Apprentice Welders
- Structural and build-up welding experience required
- Experience with carbon arc gouging and heat work
- Experience with pipe welding and fitting, including tight pipe applications, is an asset
- Valid CWB tickets considered an asset
- Strong mechanical knowledge required
- Overhead crane experience
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Reliable transportation
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment is an asset, but not required
- Experience using hand tools
- Must have CSA-approved safety footwear
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally (not continuously)
- Willingness to perform various general duties as assigned
- Safety-minded, dependable, and willing to learn
Job Responsibilities
- Perform structural, build-up, and pipe welding under the direction of senior welders and supervisors.
- Perform primary carbon arc gouging and material preparation.
- Perform heat work, including heating, bending, and straightening applications.
- Fit and weld tight pipe and components in restricted-access areas.
- Work safely in tight corridors, congested work areas,
and limited-access spaces.
- Read and interpret drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
- Prepare, fit, tack, and weld components to required specifications.
- Safely operate welding equipment, hand tools, overhead cranes, and other shop equipment.
- Inspect completed work and make adjustments as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform general shop duties as required.
- Follow all company and workplace safety procedures.
Work Environment This is a hands-on industrial position that can involve working in hot environments, tight corridors, congested work areas, restricted-access spaces, and around tight pipe and difficult-to-access components.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in physically demanding conditions, including elevated temperatures and confined or restricted work areas, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
Position Details
- Full-Time: 40 hours per week
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM
