Title: Recreation Officer – Community Programming
Salary: $2,941.44 - $3,879.02 bi-weekly | $76,739.12 - $101,199.72 annually
BSA: $279.98 - $299.34 bi-weekly benefits spending allowance
Total Compensation: $84,043.46 - $109,009.98 annually

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation & Culture, the Recreation Officer – Community Programming is responsible for coordinating the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a diverse range of community recreation programs, events, partnerships, and community activation initiatives that enhance quality of life for Fredericton residents. The position leads the development and delivery of inclusive and engaging recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities through collaboration with community organizations, schools, user groups, and internal departments.

Essential To be considered for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in Recreation Management, Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport Administration, Physical Education, Community Development, Event Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive related work experience.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

- Developing, delivering, and evaluating recreation programs, special events, and community initiatives.
- Well-developed and concise oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with community organizations, volunteers, user groups, and external stakeholders.
- Coordinating multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic and customer-focused environment.
- Preparing reports, recommendations, and presentations.
- Have proficient working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, One Drive, Co-Pilot).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification be considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate in both official languages will be considered an asset.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate community recreation programs, special events, and community activation initiatives.
- Lead partnership development and stakeholder engagement efforts to support recreation services and community development objectives.
- Act as the primary liaison for community programming initiatives associated with parks, trails, waterfront, and public space activation.
- Coordinate the implementation of recreation-related projects, plans, and initiatives identified through departmental priorities and Recreation & Leisure Master plans.
- Foster relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, user groups, government partners, and external agencies.
- Monitor emerging recreation trends, community needs, and participation data and provide recommendations to support service development and continuous improvement.
- Prepare reports, recommendations, presentations, and correspondence for management and stakeholders.
- Represent the Recreation & Culture Division on committees, working groups, and collaborative community initiatives.
- Promote equitable, inclusive,
and accessible recreation opportunities that enhance community well-being and quality of life.
- Other related duties as required.
