This position is eligible for a hybrid flex arrangement The salary range for this position is:

- Recruitment range: $69,872 to $77,030. Starting salary is determined in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.
- Performance range: Up to $90,849. Progression beyond the recruitment range is available through annual performance increases, in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.

Job Summary

Mandate:

Undergraduate Advising in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education (EPHE), in the Faculty of Health supports prospective, transfer, and current undergraduate students in program advising, course selection and degree completion for EPHE undergraduate programs (i.e. BSc (Kinesiology) program, the BA (Recreation and Health Education) program, the BA (Physical and Health Education program), and the Minor in Physical Education).

The Undergraduate Academic Adviser actively consults and collaborates with students and reviews academic transcripts to provide information, referrals and advice that support students’ planning and decision-making as it relates to their degree (i.e. admission through degree completion)



and life choices. The incumbent responds to a broad range of queries from students, parents, faculty and staff, including in-person, telephone, videoconference, and email communication. The incumbent also facilitates administrative processes related to undergraduate student advising, assists with recruitment and retention, and is responsible for a large portfolio of related administration.

Objectives:

- To support individual prospective, newly admitted and current undergraduate students as they take responsibility for resulting actions and decisions regarding their academic program
- To support the effectiveness of administrative processes related to student admission, registration and degree completion.
- To enhance student experience through a genuine interest in student experience and a commitment to UVic's strategic goals regarding student equity, diversity and inclusion as well as student recruitment and retention.
- As a result of the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Job Requirements This position requires a bachelor's degree plus a minimum 2 years of relevant experience with student advising experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

- Ability to identify and analyze issues, gather information, analyze and develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to make independent day-to-day decisions related to adjusting priorities, advising others and responding to immediate concerns while adhering to related University policy, procedures and guidelines.
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality including student information and related records.
- Demonstrated personal initiative to improve existing processes.
- Ability to effectively use student record systems, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of the University of Victoria's academic programs, policies and procedures.
